Take at look at your Pentax bag. All Pentax bayonet lenses still work on today's Pentax cameras, with the added benefit of lens stabilization. As a result, there is a good Ebay market for Pentax lenses in good condition. Frequently they still bring more $ than they did when new. A Pentax 50mm "A" for example, brings $50-$100, and they were kit lenses decades ago. Film bodies are virtually worthless, however. You might raise enough $ to help buy you favored new lens.

I know quite a few people who attend these functions selling a wide range of products. Very few make a net profit from their "hobby", and most are thrilled just to get close to break even on a weekend. I suspect that if you don't find the social aspect worth the effort you will not find much reason to continue.

Say no, no, no, but on wedding day take your equipment and if there is no professional photographer there, do the best you can.

I too had problems adjusting to Windows 8, but after 3 months I can work around most of the multi-purpose disfunctions. "8" does have some features that were not available on XP, and to some extent soften the blow. If you go with Windows 8 keep an open mind, read helpful "how-to's" and remind yourself that a Windows 8 machine will be about half the price of a MAC.

If you downloaded the RAW file and all other photos on the card at the same time into your computer the RAW file should still be there. You can, however, use the card as an add-on drive and just open one RAW file at a time without downloading the entire batch. I will do this if I need only one file on a busy card. If this was the case the RAW file may not have been saved on the PC, but might still be on the card.

Try to blur the clouds a little. In additional to a little more realism, it might draw more attention to the birds.

Serif has a pano program for about $20.00 that works well, and also allows you to produce an image that you can tilt, zoom and pan, and is still small enough to email. Uses Quicktime

In my experience, most photos under most conditions will, in the end, look the same whether initially shot RAW or JPEG. The difference will show up if the photo is taken under less than ideal conditions, or with special lighting or color parameters. Under these conditions, the photographer has more options to "recover" an ideal finished product if initially shot in RAW. I have found that I do not need to shoot RAW 100% of the time. I usually same RAW for shots when I suspect I may need the extra latitude later on.

I guess it comes down to what one is used to. I have used PS Elements for many years. Last year I tried a couple of alternatives before moving to Windows 8, and did not like any of them. I purchased Elements 12, and like it very much.

I have found no good use for continuous auto-focus. In my cameras this setting allows the shutter to trigger without focus lock, any small movement of the camera will cause the focus to shift and hunt again. This is a perfect spot for pre-focusing on the poles. Select a good spot then wait until the dog comes through that place and take multiple shots without large camera movements. "Panning" requires a lot of practice. It is easier with the subject moving across the field of view rather than directly towards the camera.

I recently downloaded the free "Photo Effects" and it is indeed full size and completely free. I use it as a stand-alone app. When I finish I save the result as a "PSD" file I can open in Elements 12. No damage to the original because of the name change. I suppose one can achieve the same results with "Elements", but "Effects" allows me to toggle on numerous effects to see the eventual result much faster. One very nice feature is the effects brush, which allows the operator to apply the effects to a selected portion of the image, leaving the rest untouched. Well worth the effort.

I have come to believe it can be a matter of timing. There are so many posts that each one may be presented for only a very short time before being replaced by new posts. For example, last Saturday night I posted a series on eagles that had lost their nest. By Sunday morning it was gone, but I did see several hundred views and a couple of comments.

We have had our own mating eagles in the back pasture for nearly 20 years. They continue to return even though the pine they nest in has been dead for four years. A setback, then nice recovery this mating year.
