Why do you think the government is still minting pennies?

Not up here in the north of America. Smallest now minted is the nickel (largest is the toonie.)

Ain’t this the truth!! Sadly it is here up north.

Golfer walks into the pro shop at the Vegreville course and asks the golf pro if they sell ball markers.

The golf pro says they do, and they are $1.00.

The guy gives the golf pro a dollar.

The golf pro opens the register, puts the dollar in, and hands him a dime to use as the marker.

This economic model is also used by governments.

A pic of one of my backyard buddies. This is the patriarch of one of the families of Pileated that graced our backyard this year. We had two pairs feeding regularly this season resulting in 2 newcomers to the world of birding. We've had better years but this time each family appeared to have only 1 youngster each. We were introduced earlier this spring with a daughter by one pair and a son by the other. The second pic is of the dad (on the right) teaching his son how to feed itself. It's a real comedy show, better than any of that trash on our TV. We have really enjoyed having these characters around although they are proving to be more costly each year to feed them. So far they've went through 5 large bottles of peanut butter, 2 kg of lard and 5 kg of cornmeal and it's just the start of October. During the cold days of winter we don't get as many birds as now as the youngsters move on to new territory to start their own families in the new year. But we still expect to have at least 4 of them here for the duration of the winter months and into the new breeding season in 2020. So time to stock up with peanut butter, their favourite.

NEWS - HARLEY DAVIDSON SPEAKS TO DECLINING BIKE SALES

Apparently, the Baby-Boomers all have motorcycles. Generation X is only buying a few, and the next generation isn't buying any at all.

A recent study was done to find out why Millennials don't ride motorcycles:

1. Pants won't pull up far enough for them to straddle the seat.

2. Can't get their phone to their ear with a helmet on.

3. Can't use 2 hands to eat while driving.

4. They don't get a trophy and a recognition plaque just for buying one.

5. Don't have enough muscle to hold the bike up when stopped.

6. Might have a bug hit them in the face and then they would need emergency care.

7. Motorcycles don't have air conditioning.

8. They can't afford one because they spent 12 years in college trying to get a degree in Humanities, Social Studies or Gender Studies for which no jobs are available.

9. They are allergic to fresh air.

10. Their pajamas get caught on the exhaust pipes.

11. They might get their hands dirty checking the oil.

12. The handle bars have buttons and levers and cannot be controlled by touch-screen.

13. You have to shift manually and use something called a clutch.

14. It's too hard to take selfies while riding.

15. They don't come with training wheels like their bicycles did.

16. Motorcycles don't have power steering or power brakes.

17. Their nose ring interferes with the face shield.

18. They would have to use leg muscle to back up.

19. When they stop, a light breeze might blow exhaust in their face.

20. It could rain on them and expose them to non-soft water.

21. It might scare their therapy dog, and then the dog would need therapy.

22. Can't get the motorcycle down the basement stairs of their parent's home.

Thanks Terrymac for stopping by and looking. Yes the finches over here are quite colorful, much like the ones you have over where you abide.

These are beautiful shots. These darlings winter at my feeder but as you said, their color are nondescript at that point. If I'm lucky, a few of the males will take on their beautiful spring coloring before they leave for the summer.

Thanks for stopping in Carol. I'm blessed in that I have these characters with me 12 months of the year.
