The American Goldfinch, little pieces of sunshine flitting about my yard. In winter they are nondescript, dull green/grey flyers that crowd around my feeders making short work of my supply of seeds. But in our neck of the woods they become the harbinger of spring in changing to the brilliant color of summer. The male in its full glory is like tiny bits of sunshine flitting about the yard. The female while also changing her colors is much more dreary in order to be unseen while on her nest. It's the boys whom are the gaudy ones. They will remain this way till fall approaches and breeding season is over (no need for the guys to be all gussied up as the ladies have had their fill of them). They then change back to the dreary dull colors to prepare for the winter and to tell us what is on the way.
Until then I will sit on my deck with a cup of jav and enjoy their company while they devour my supply of sunflower hearts and niger seed. They will return again next spring to tell me what is shortly coming. I will look forward to that day again.

These are beautiful shots. These darlings winter at my feeder but as you said, their color are nondescript at that point. If I'm lucky, a few of the males will take on their beautiful spring coloring before they leave for the summer.
All lovely with great colours. Thanks.

Thanks for stopping in Carol. I'm blessed in that I have these characters with me 12 months of the year.

Thanks Terrymac for stopping by and looking. Yes the finches over here are quite colorful, much like the ones you have over where you abide.

Pretty bird.
Allbirds have a certain beauty to them. Some are just a bit more gussied up to impress the ladies. Thanks John for stopping by and commenting.
