NEWS - HARLEY DAVIDSON SPEAKS TO DECLINING BIKE SALES

Apparently, the Baby-Boomers all have motorcycles. Generation X is only buying a few, and the next generation isn't buying any at all.

A recent study was done to find out why Millennials don't ride motorcycles:

1. Pants won't pull up far enough for them to straddle the seat.

2. Can't get their phone to their ear with a helmet on.

3. Can't use 2 hands to eat while driving.

4. They don't get a trophy and a recognition plaque just for buying one.

5. Don't have enough muscle to hold the bike up when stopped.

6. Might have a bug hit them in the face and then they would need emergency care.

7. Motorcycles don't have air conditioning.

8. They can't afford one because they spent 12 years in college trying to get a degree in Humanities, Social Studies or Gender Studies for which no jobs are available.

9. They are allergic to fresh air.

10. Their pajamas get caught on the exhaust pipes.

11. They might get their hands dirty checking the oil.

12. The handle bars have buttons and levers and cannot be controlled by touch-screen.

13. You have to shift manually and use something called a clutch.

14. It's too hard to take selfies while riding.

15. They don't come with training wheels like their bicycles did.

16. Motorcycles don't have power steering or power brakes.

17. Their nose ring interferes with the face shield.

18. They would have to use leg muscle to back up.

19. When they stop, a light breeze might blow exhaust in their face.

20. It could rain on them and expose them to non-soft water.

21. It might scare their therapy dog, and then the dog would need therapy.

22. Can't get the motorcycle down the basement stairs of their parent's home.

Add, they think all riders are Hell's Angels or worse and they are scared of them.

A teacher I worked with long ago told a story in the faculty lunch room about how scared he was being surrounded by bikers as a large convoy of them passed him on a highway north of LA.
One of the other teachers spoke up "Yeah, I know about that large group ride. It was doctors, nurses and medical first responders doing a ride for charity. My doctor was one of them."

I had a Goldwing, and rode with the GWRRA.
TWICE some rinky dink cops pulled me over to ask about local gang activity.
?!?! I'm on a HONDA, and I live over 200 miles from here. WTF, rover?
I've been questioned about noise- there was a Sportster rider who loved setting off the alarms in the underground parking garage at lunch. He was gone when the checkers arrive- so I get asked.
We used to do the famous LA Toy Run for Xmas- until the cops made rolling road blocks.
Group of bikers- pull them over, hands on guns, warrant and paperwork checks. It's an hour or so.
And we're the good guys! Mostly computer related people. Mostly Hondas. Ticketbois gotta ticket.
And MY (insurance corps minions) doctors called them "Murdercyclers".

Many years ago 2 local bike gangs had a shootout and several were killed. The police were on the lookout for suspicious bikers. A couple of days later about 15 of my friends and I were out riding when a police car pulled up behind us and turned on the flashing lights so we all pulled over into the nearest parking lot. The young female officer was on her hand held radio calling for back up. She was so nervous she was shaking; she just knew she had caught the "gang". One of our riders got off his bike and told us as he walked past us toward the officer to stay on our bikes and he would talk to the officer. Imagine her surprise when she saw that the person strolling towards her was her superior officer. At this point there are several police cars flying into the parking lot and officers getting out of their vehicles. When they saw who the young officer had pulled over they had a busted out laughing. The young officer was given a lesson in the difference between tour bikes, cruisers and what she should have been looking for. I'm sure she didn't live down that "bust".

I had to laugh at #2. I was out riding and was at a traffic light when a young man pulled up beside me. I hear a phone ring and look over to see him pull his phone from his pocket and push it up under his helmet. The light changed to green and we took off. At the next light I noticed he was still talking on the phone but shortly finished his conversation and took the phone out from under the helmet and put it back in his pocket.

I won't answer my phone when I'm out riding....I prefer to enjoy the peace and quiet.

I have a Kawasaki Spectre Limited Edition 750 with full fairing and Touring gear (sitting under a tarp for 10 years since I developed knee trouble-need to sell it or fix it and ride it now that my knee is a bit better). Also a CB radio and stereo (you get some shocked looks when you have Mozart blaring at 65 on the freeway). Once when my van was being repainted I rode it 19 milesone way on the I-10 to East LA to teach. My briefcase was too big to fit in the saddle bags or the trunk so it got strapped to the passenger seat. There was an LAPD bike officer who lived a little east of me who hit the 605 - I-10 interchange the same time as me every day on his way to work. About ten of us would pull in behind him riding on the wide center divider in a convoy. The only other cop that ever looked at us twice was CHP bike officer who cruised past us checking out what kind of bikes we had, then saluted the LAPD officer as he passed him and went back to herding cars. With our own private lane we could maintain 65-70 even when the freeway was jammed. About a mile before my off ramp in East LA I would peel off and start working my over for the ramp. All the other riders would wave good bye.

That would depend on what their parents would choose for them, as the money would come from a Millennials retirement funding. All millennials are simply counting on the remains of parents retirement funds and inheriting at least the basement of their parents homes.
