hi rab-eye..thx. its frustrating because I cannot tell you what I did differently nor could I replicate for sure..I was in the medical profession for 40 yrs and this photography/art venture is quite the polar opposite. but,i am committed to try..retired in April 2017 so now much more time..thx
thanks for the info.i am reading his article about nikon auto focus system..will ck his other info. starting out trying to capture BIF was probably a mistake..shoud tackle more "basic" projects first.like composition which for me at this point is considerably more difficult than I imagined..thx for the reply, jim
thank you.taken from my front porch.
am struggling with birds in flight so wanted to send some pics that I think are keepers.getting impatient to improve. comments welcomed.thx, jim
may have this attachment thing figured out
not as clear as I would like.hand held.comments welcomed. thx jim
thx. have been doing fair amount of reading, now need to get out and practice..
thx for the reply. lots of multitasking trying to capture these BIF. little more planning ahead will help..tyx,jim
welcome to the forum. I joined 6-8 months ago and have learned much from just following the threads.rmalarz,jerry41,and 6-8 others are full of knowledge and skills and are quite helpful..ive only posted a few photos because I was concerned with negative feedback but take what you can from helpful people and discard the attacks...remember lots of folks here are professional so some get irritated with beginner questions..just follow along and learn..enjoy the forum, jim

1st thing you have to do is when you upload your pics you need to check the box next to "add attachment" so that we can see your pic at 100%. Pic 1 and 2 look to be in focus and pic 3 looks like the shutter speed could have been faster to freeze the bird. As far as improvement...my suggestions are to get closer to the bird so it fills more of the frame. Try to get a catch light in the eye. Good pics....just get a bit closer.
what set up do you use for BIF
I agree. third pic is out of focus .when I took all the pics, about 50 or so, I was fiddling between program, aperture and tried a few on manual..which is beyond my level..want to find a good spot to stalk birds as they fly to the pond..also set up few feeders..all good plans, will see how it pans out.
someone suggested I try to concentrate on slow moving birds which makes good sense. unfortunately moving back to Indiana end of January and only slow moving bird is a heron that hangs out on my pond.i have a 150-600 tamron at home with tripod. hopefully that set up will eliminate some shake..il just keep moving forward, jim
