So I got a new camera (Canon 7D MII) and a new lens (Canon 100-400) and have been working on how to set it up for BIF. Here are some first attempts.

Congrats on the new gear. Looks like you are homing in on BIF photography. Last image is outstanding

It looks like you've got it figured out. Nicely done. I especially like #2 and #5.

Great start, esp the last one.
When I got my 7DII* this is the place I got my settings to start out, then modified to suit me:

Other help here:

And here:

If you haven't found it yet here is the 51 page manual on just the AF (downloadable PDF):
http://downloads.canon.com/camera/brochures/EOS_7D_Mark_II_AF_guide_CUSA_9-2014.pdf

*I traded and now use 5DIV and 80D, before I used the 6D and 7DII, I wanted the newer sensors etc. When the III comes out maybe I will get that, if I can afford it.

Thanks so much! I actually thought the last image looked a little "soft" - perhaps the action pose compensated for that.

Thanks - I camped out back(yard) and tried to wait as it approached the feeder.

Nicely done. A bit soft as are many of mine (maybe most). I take fifty to get one good one. Are you using back button focus? Really helps for BIF.

You are welcome.

The AF manual helps avoid reading/hunting through the full manual now someone like "Dummies" needs to translate the AF Manual into everyday English. I used to buy a lot of computer oriented "For Dummies" books, the instructions were good, easy to read and understand and they used to have great cartoons poking fun at computers and techno geeks.
