I know one of the best ways to find out about a lens you are looking to buy is to rent and use it. That is my problem.
I will be purchasing in the near future either a Sigma 100-400 or a Tamron 100-400. While I can find a Tamron to rent I have not been able to find a Sigma online or around San Diego to rent. So back to the drawing board of asking people for their experiences. Anyone out there used both of these and can offer some knowledge of them.
Thanks in advance for all your input

A really nice group of pictures. I am just getting into doing work like this. What kind of lens are you using?
Nice pics, I have been to Kauai many times and will be going again in April. Would be interested in knowing what lens you used. I get tempted sometimes to just go light with my G15 and a underwater camera but I always like the quality of the bigger cameras and lens.
As a train guy as well as a photographer, that is a very nice photo. You should send to the railroad company also.
Surprised that no-one has mentioned either Fred Miranda or Photography on the Net. I have purchased numerous lens on these sites. If you know what you are looking for and what you want to spend these sites can also be a great place to find used lens.
Very nice set. You captured the real images someone can see there
Many thanks to all who answered. A great teaching lesson for me.
Cannot remember or find this. What is the difference between a FL and EF Canon lens. Can both be used on a full frame and APS-C camera?
Since apparently you have Nikon Equipment you have the long stuff covered with the 70-300. I was raised in Hawaii, an have visited back there at least 20 trips.
See the set by one of the members who goes by vicksart. She did a great amount of shots using a Tamron 18-300. Very impressed with the quality.
If you end up on Kauai, Kona, Maui, Oahu, I can help with suggestions.
Other then that I take with me a small rain cover for the camera. Also depending if you go underwater having a low cost underwater camera is cool. I always take one.
Doors off Helicopter rides are very good, just have one lens, that is why I am beginning to think about the Tamron of something like a 50-250
Have fun, I love the islands.
So share with us the camera and lens you used to take these pictures. Not sure I would be so brave without water protection.
I agree with handheld and higher shutter speed
I found this book case at Ikea. it is about 4'6" wide and 30" high. It is called Kallax Shelving. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10305741/. I lay mine horizontal so I have my computer printers on top of it
