It worked like this. The insurance company would not cover flooding because of the flood plain even though I was a good half mile away from the river and never had a problem. Afterward, I was approved for flood insurance through the federal government, but not before the flood. I was also approved for Federal assistance on rebuilding at 9%. My mortgage rate was 5.4%. That made a lot of sense.

Not a lot of what the federal gov. does makes sense. I remember when they first came up with flood insurance. Since I was living in an area that I knew could flood I got it asap. Thankfully we had moved to an area that if it floods it's time to build an ark before Katrina hit. The people that owned the house then did fix it up. We had sold my mothers house just a few months before. The people that had bought it tore the old house down and rebuilt about 4 feet higher.

All I could salvage from that one was a Sears 4.5hp outboard boat motor. I still have the motor. I was on a 100 year flood plain and could not get flood insurance. But who would have thought? This was in 1986.

Talk about a sinking feeling. It still hurts to think about it. I feel so bad for your daughter.

I didn't know that flood insurance could be refused since it is backed by the federal gov. After Katrina the National Guard brought my son's boat and motor back to his then house. They had gotten it down from on top of a fence 3 blocks away. When we were in Memphis we could see his house by way of satellites and the web. His house was one of 3 still on its foundation for the length of the street. Some of the houses were in the middle of the street some were blocks away. He lost everything as there was water even on the second story.

Hope she had insurance! Such a mess. We had some rain, but as usual it mostly missed us. Sorry you got the brunt of it. Great shots, and I loved the one of the ferry. I mean, bus, lol.

The only kind of insurance that would do any good would be flood insurance. That is the only thing that covers rising water.

Great shots of a cute little one. Appears to be an American Eskimo, formerly called 'Spitz.' They can be really nice little guys, tho a lot of them are nippy, lol.

Looks like a Pomeranian to me. We had one when I was little and it was a smart dog. I don't remember it being yappy.

Roxie, your pictures brought back some great memories. Four years we traveled in that area with another couple. That was a great summer.

She looks like she is dressed for winter...never seen a cat like that before.

This is TT's sister Baby (next litter). She isn't as soft as TT but she also leaves her softness all over the house. The lady that we got them from said that they are Angora, but I really don't think she was right. They were both in bad shape. TT obviously wasn't getting enough to eat. When she would eat she would look around like someone was going to take it away from her. I leave dry food out 24-7. She was full of fleas and the vet had never seen a cat with ear mites as bad as she had.

I said that I wouldn't judge his composition. His pictures were grainy IMHO.

Corn on the cob and false teeth don't play together well.

In that case I'd cut the corn off of the cob and lob the butter on. BTW, crawfish is over now. Do you know what the rice farmers do every other year? They raise crawfish. My mouth is watering.

Where I grew up anytime you skinned or extracted anything you shucked it. Still and all a mess of crawdads and cornbread with onions and tomatoes would go good with the Abita Amber right now.

I'd skip the cornbread and tomatoes and go with corn on the cob, onions and potatoes boiled in the same seasoned water the "crawfish" were boiled in. The Abita Amber needs to be real cold.

On our latest trip we went to a "flea or farmers" market that is held every weekend and there was a guy selling his pictures. Some were matted some weren't and in various sizes. Since I'm trying to learn I looked hard at them and even with my untrained eyes wouldn't have bought any of them. He was bragging to my husband how he took them all with an old inexpensive camera and thought they were great. I'll not judge his composition but he really needed to get a newer better camera. I didn't feel it was my place to tell him that. Since I'm not planning to go pro I don't think I'll put any of my pictures on here. My skin isn't tough enough.

What is the best way to move pictures from my laptop to my desktop with a much bigger screen?

Yeah, we could be shucking and eating crawdads and drinking some Abita Amber.

FYI, you peel crawfish and shuck oysters. Abita Amber is brewed just a few miles from my house.

In '99 (I think) when we were driving into Yosemite and I spotted smoke. Asked the ranger that was at the entrance about and she said lightning had struck and started the fire. She assured me it would be fine so we went in. Got to watch a helicopter scoop up water from a stream. Well when we got ready to leave we found that we couldn't leave the same way we had come in. It took us 2 hours longer to get out. The part that really scarred me was that we had to drive on a road that had fire on both sides right next to the road. Those are great pictures.
