Put the movie picture on a memory stick (copy/paste) or share it on your home network.

Windows. The laptop is Windows 8. The desktop is Windows 7.

I would say use a USB cable between the two devices!

Get a free Dropbox account. Then you can view your photos from anywhere. It adds a folder in your Windows Explorer (Computer in Windows 7, This PC in Windows 8) and you can then copy them to where you like them or just leave them in the Dropbox. They give you 2GB of free storage and 250MB more for each person you refer. You can copy your pictures into the Dropbox from any computer, smartphone or tablet you have and they are available on all of your devices. Google+ also gives you storage you can use in a similar way, Microsoft has One Drive and Apple has iCloud. You're good to go with any of these. Alternatively, copy to flash drives or external hard drives and move them from one computer to another that way.

If both computers are new enough to have USB 3, using a USB 3 memory stick is probably the fastest way. If both are connected to the same router, then doing it across the network can be fast, though wireless is much slower than USB 3.

Copy photos to a thumb drive then install photos to other computer.
Windows 7 to windows 8 does not matter.
Good luck

When I have lots of MB to move or copy, I use a small external hard drive.

Why don't you just connect your larger monitor to your laptop?

Then you do not have to move any files. Keep them all on your laptop. When you use your desktop, just connect the monitor back to your desktop.

In order of best choice.

1. Download and store your photos on a small external hard drive like a WD Passport. Then you just unplug from one and connect to the other. This also allows you to (if you want) to copy the files to the internal hard drives to give you 2 back ups. One step process and very fast.

2. Copy the files to a thumb drive and paste on the other computer. This gives you 1 backup BUT... make a change on one computer it is not duplicated on the other machine. Two step process and somewhat time consuming (three if you then copy the changes back to the first machine)

3. Use network transfer. This gives you one backup and if you use a free synch program then both sides can remain identical. Depending on numbers can be time consuming but you can set the program to run at night so it doesn't affect you. One step process but should be approx the same time as the two step thumb drive approach. YMMV

4. Using the cloud... one word: DON'T From computer one over the internet to the cloud then over the internet to the second computer will take forever (conceded, if only a few photos then a viable option if the above are not possible) Don't forget your ISP has a cap on the amount of data you can send monthly and big penalties for those that go over. I made that mistake and it cost me $340 for 1 month (movies not photos) Now couple that with the fact that your free cloud account also has limits and you have to do the process in small batches.

Do yourself a favor and spend $100 for an external HD and work your photos from that drive "backing up" any results to both (or more) computers.

Personally, I use #1 and #3 combined after losing 2 years worth of photos that were backed up. (both hard drives crashed within 2 days of each other) Now use 3 externals on 3 computers all synched and backed up to each of the computers internal hard drives. Each back up is set to run at 3 day intervals with a 1 day stagger between computers to avoid backing up any errors. Can you say techno junkie boys and girls? But I do feel much more secure now... :-D

Network your computers.

Allow each computer to access the other.

Open the laptop files on your desktop computer.

View, PP, whatever the file - then SAVE AS to your desktop computer.

Use and external storage device that is large enough to hold all of your laptop images and then just copy them to it and then plug it into the desktop.
