This site is in New Mexico, near Alamogordo. There have been over 20,000 petroglyphs discovered in this area. They are over 600 years old. The area is secluded, and beautiful! Alot of rock climbing and hiking trails, none of which is too strenuous.

I have been interested for quite a few years, I had seen petrographs(cave drawings), 25 years ago, and that peaked my interest. I went to this site about 10 or 12 years ago when I was still on film, so I was more conservative with my photos. I like history much more now that I am grown!

For anyone else that might want to make the trip:

Three Rivers Petroglyphs site is located 17 miles north of Tularosa, NM and 28 miles south of Carrizozo, NM on U.S. 54. Turn east off of U.S. 54 onto Country Road B30 and travel 5 miles on paved road following signs to the site.

We enjoyed it a few summers ago when the national forest around Ruidoso was off limits due to fire hazard.

Thanks for bringing back a pleasant memory.

Roxie, your pictures brought back some great memories. Four years we traveled in that area with another couple. That was a great summer.

This is a great post, first for the fascinating petroglyphs, and when I looked at the series of pictures again I took a look at the landscapes surrounding them. Very nice

Thank you, Sirius! I was blessed with an overcast day, which is good light and cooler too. The heavy rain held off until we were almost getting ready to leave.
