I think you and Lightroom got off on the wrong foot. It happened to me when I first tried it (Lr v2). I locked myself in my room on a Saturday morning and did not emerge until I wrapped my head around it. Been using it ever since, and it does EVERYTHING I need it to do as far as cataloging and managing my images. The other alternatives may be more robust, and offer multi-user capability, etc, but for a single user, Lr is hard to beat.

I suggest you find someone to give you a hand getting reacquainted with LR - you'll be glad you did.

I use ACDSee which I've used since before the turn of the century. It initially was a shareware photo catalogue program, and that's all it did. It now also includes photo editing, and the editing is really easy to use, and includes layers. The cataloging however, is as good as it gets, unfortunately, this means it is not all that easy to set up. Yes, easy as pie to use, but it is very flexible, which makes it less than easy to set things up to your best advantage. Once you learn all the features though, it is nothing less than awesome.

I know you don't want editing capability, but ACDSee's editing is not in your way at all, and if you ever want to edit something, it is super easy to use, but only if you want to use it, otherwise, editing is just a menu item you need never click on.

I would suggest looking into document management applications. There are a number of them that are free to download and use. I realize that a lot of folks here are interested in photography. Thus, they are drawn to using management apps within the photo editing software. I prefer to separate the two and keep data/document management as a stand-alone. Look for document management software free and you'll find quite a few possibilities.

I have bridge and camera raw to edit photos and while it can find images it is certainly not designed as a photo cataloger. I want software which will do to my 13000+ photos what my music cataloger does to my CD's. I have over 400 CD's which results in thousands of songs. I can find any CD, Song, Artist, year ect ..... Does not edit music just catalogs. I want software to catalog images only, not an editor. Maybe such software does not exist.

I use Abobe Bridge and Camera RAW to edit my photos.

I have tried Lightroom and do not really like it, I find it a pain in the butt to use as a catalog.

I was using a program called Extensis Portfolio but it is an old program with minimal features.

So far I have not found any software designed to simply catalog photos and nothing else.

I use a standard set of keywords so I can find photos easily.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I now have over 13000 photos.

Thank you for any assistance

You can't know how many activations a typical refurbished D500 will have out of the box. Each one is going to be different. I used to shoot with a D300s. I now have two D500's and a D750. The D500 is a great upgrade from the D300/D300s. I'm not sure how you can check the shutter count at purchase. You would have to purchase it first and then check when you get it.

Refurb cameras, from what people have read, shutter count can be as low as a few to as high as several hundred activations. But the cameras are indistinguishable from a new camera. The warranty however is just 90 days. Only you can decide if giving up the 1 year warranty is worth saving a few hundred bucks. Refurb's can be defective returns which have been repaired or simply a return which can not legally be sold as new.

This is my first Canon camera, I was a Nikon customer and the Canon experience has been different. I shoot JPG and RAW at the same time. The camera is set to factory defaults of Standard for JPG. When I view the JPG and RAW images they both look exactly alike. My Nikon D300 camera made the JPG look colorful but the Canon 80D has the JPG looking as dull and washed out as the RAW. Now granted I can edit either one to look colorful and sharp. Can anyone who uses the Canon 80D tell me if this normal. How do I get my JPG photos to great right from the camera? Maybe I just need to tweak the JPG in camera settings. Not complaining as I love this Canon 80D a lot better than my old Nikon D300, touch screen makes the camera much easier to use.

Image plane is not parallel to the subject plane. They must be parallel for DOF to cover the subject in focus.

Yep, this I understand. This is why I said a stand is in order. Almost impossible to keep everything parallel by hand and the closer I get the hard it is to maintain it seems ...........

Canon 60mm 2.8 Macro USM Lens on a Canon 80D

Just bought the lens and this is my first attempt at macro

Difficult to get the whole coin in focus

Top letters are sharp but lower are soft.

This was done hand held, guess a stand is in order to make a perfect shot.

Do you have a new question or new images? This is the same Feb 5 image initially posted in thread: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-630797-1.html

As shown in the screen capture, the AF point is active on the barn roof. The sides of the barn building are better focused than the roof where the AF points is active. Given the AF mode, I wonder if the camera was slightly re-positioned after the lens was focused.

Are there new images that correspond with the questions of this new posting?

No new question. I just need to go back and read about FOCUS and DOF as what I was trying to do is not possible.

Your post is a bit unclear. The easiest solution is to post an original JPEG (or few) and store the attachments so we can see the image and the EXIF data, and hopefully we can detect the camera AF configuration for suggested corrections.

I am sure the camera is fine and more likely I just do not know what I am doing. I was trying to take a photo of a small barn. I tried spot focus and where I placed the focus spot, it was in focus as was the surrounding area. I tried center focus using 9 focus points and got the same results with a larger area being in focus. If I try all auto focus and let the camera do 45 focus points at will, nothing is really in clear focus.

Was shooting Aperture Priority
Apertures tried 2.8, 5.6, 8,and 9. 8 and 9 were the best but the aperture only affected DOF, not focus.

How is it possible to get the whole barn in focus, or is it?
