I was looking through today’s topics when my wife said to go look at the cloud above our house.

Okay, I'm admitting defeat. I took a bunch of pictures of my friend. Wearing a very white shirt. So it's the classic very white against darker skin and a darker background and whatever I do, it's still much too much white. I can't find any tool in the box to tone it down. I can bring it down a bit, but it's not enough.

I've been diddling with these all week and I can't believe I'm being defeated by a white shirt. I'm posting a few in 72 dpi. I use PS badly. I need to take a course or something. Well, I'm a whiz with Framemaker. Just not Photoshop.

Have you tried making a new layer, type equal overlay, and painting in with a 25% black brush? Black darkens and white lightens the background photo.

I like that a lot. They're not so washed out and white anymore. Thanks!

Thank you, I was afraid that I over did it a bit. Doug

My name is Doug and I thought I should introduce myself as I really have enjoyed this site for the last month. I am a memories type of photographer and have taken snapshots to remember my travels through all 50 states, most of Canada, and Mexico, by motor home (90,000 miles). Five around the world vacations visiting over 60 countries and all seven continents. I have preferred a small camera with a telephoto lens. This site is an eye opener.

I saw this bird on a river bank and parked at a distance to not scare it away. When I opened the door it started moving and as I shot photos it came right up to me. I left the car door in this shot to show how close it was.

I like the convenience of my Fujifilm HS10, but I bought a Canon T3i after seeing the photos on this site. I took these grasshopper photos a few weeks apart and can now make a comparison.

I used PS Elements to play with the hands. Mainly brushed a little of the face color on the hands and then darken the area a little.

How tall are you? This makes a difference. I am 6ft. 3in. I received a pretty nice tripod for Christmas that is pretty stable until one cranks up the center post all the way. Then it becomes pretty unstable. In other words, too short for me. I have been eyeballing a pretty sweet tripod at Wolf Camera that, without being cranked up, sets at right around 6 ft. with its' legs fully extended. The center section comes out and can be used as a mono pod. And, it is pretty lightweight. It sells for $79.00. I would have bought it but remember, I received that gift and I need to use it awhile. LOL.

I do not care if you have a point and shoot or a video camera, you want a stable platform from which to shoot. You don't have to spend a ton of money either. Just look around.

What brand and model? Sorry, I put my question in the middle of your comment in my last post.
