I have some of his tutorials and yes he does tend to talk a bit fast. That being said he offers a lot of good information and presets (if your into presets)
I found a guy by the name of Ben Willmore on Creative Live has some really good Photoshop courses. He is an excellent instructor. Worth looking into and checking out other Creative Live videos.

City Night Photography Settings

I don't see where anyone mentioned post processing. Even if you don't get the perfect image "in camera" assuming you are shooting RAW - you can do a lot in PP. Even if your a bit underexposed you can really come up with a great image. Just don't overexpose.

LR vs My PC Laptop

I have downloaded LR on my laptop years ago. I have the subscription version. My laptop has 4GB RAM, 450GB hard drive running Windows 10 - 64 bit processing. I was running Windows 7 - but upgraded to 10 when it was FREE.
I have never had any problem running Lightroom. Just a little slow with only 4GB RAM. It sounds like you have an internet connection problem, dropping off when you are downloading?

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1081615-REG/kinesis_r142_poly_bead_fill_for.html B & H photo has a product to fill the beanbag. Not so sure I would use any beans or seeds of any kind. If the bag gets wet you'll have a mess on your hands.

Windows 7 to 10?

When it comes to technology, be it cameras or computers or post processing software you're much better off keeping up with the latest. Try using an outdated computer with new software you're going to have nothing but problems. If NASA tried using the same old systems they used for the first moon walk they would never have made it to Mars. Are you still driving a car with a carburetor, points and distributor? Are you still using a rotatory dial phone? Are you still washing your cloths in a ringer-type washing machine? You get my point.

What is with all the grumbling about Adobe and the monthly "subscription". If you get magazine or newspaper's - you pay a subscription fee. I pay more than $9.99 a month for the daily paper. If you don't want the latest update of LR and PS then so be it. Just stop the hum-bug - after all its Christmas Time.

Well I think you hit it right on the head. I have a iPhone 7+ - regular lens and telephoto. It does as great job. With a smart phone, after you have taken the photo you can easily text or mail it to whomever.
