Thanks for all the suggestions. A lot to look at and study. Here's some thoughts:
1. I know DF is a great camera. But seems to be on the high end for my budget. Maybe I will rent it for a weekend and will find it irresistable as some of you mentioned.
2. 810 vs 750 vs 610. At this time I am partial to the 750. One problem I have with my D7000 is taking photos with odd angles. Doesn't happen often but when it does I really wanted a flip screen. 810 is bigger/heavier for travelling, also more expensive. Haven't checked out the 610 much and will do that.
3. Used --- not comfortable with ebay. Unless there are lenses I really need and overbudget I will go with new Camera
4. I plan to keep my D7000 and keep DX separate from FX.
5. Will look at lens suggestions. Have not thought about ultra-wide and will look at them

I recently purchased a D750 (I still have a D7100) and I love it. I purchased it with the 24-120 Kit, and that is a great lens. I also have the 70-200 f/2.8 lens. Also a great lens.

Then I purchased the Nikon 28-300 f/3/5-5.6 and now that lens rarely leaves my camera. I love the wide zoom range.

And with the d750, a few times I have bumped the ISO up to 128,000 (last ISO before the extended range) and the images are totally usable. When I look at the images in Lightroom (pixel peeking at 100%) there is very low noise.

I hope my experience gives you some ideas. Good luck and keep shooting.

Thank you. 28-300 might well be the third lens I will buy. On the D7000 I can hardly go beyond ISO 3200. Question is with such a good ISO performance on the d750, is there still a need for f2.8?

I recently moved from a crop sensor to a refurbished D610 from B&H and am loving it! You might look into a refurbed D750 to save a little for more glass. Here is a shot with my D610 I took this morning, even with the heavy cropping, these FF cameras are amazing. I don't have any glass suggestions, I like the fixed focal lengths and don't have much experience with the FF zooms.

That is a great shot. I am really looking forward to a FF. Thanks.

If you have a lot of DX glass that you are happy with and really know how to use you may want to only upgrade your camera to a newer DX, like a D7100 or D7200.

For FF FX, a D750, D810, or even D610 would be a nice body.

I love my D7000 and staying with DX would be the rational thing to do. The camera is not the limiting factor in my photography.

The honest truth is it is GAS and Camera Envy. My justification is that after four years I am entitled to an upgrade. Thats my argument to wife. She agrees so I am not going to waste that!!

I have a Nikon D7000 for 4 years. All DX lenses except Tamron 150-600. Just got wife-approved budget of $5000 for a FF system. Looking for suggestions.
I am a weekend hobbyist - mostly street, scenery, and wild life.
My current thoughts:
D750 with 24-120 F4 $2700
Nikon 70-200 F4 $1400
Maybe a refurbished lens for the remaining $900?

What is your custom setting for AF Priority? If set of FOCUS the camera won't take a picture unless it is in focus. Could be when you press BBF button it resets the focus and then the picture is taken.

Last night I set Nikon D600 to “Scene” and selected “Party Indoor”

I use back button focus.. when composing a shot at the party….I press the shutter and nothing happens, (except maybe the flash will pop up), push the shutter release button again, nothing!! However, when I press the back button focus again, the picture is taken. do you think this is normal? I can not find anything in David Busch’s. book about this nor in the Nikon manual.

In September we're heading for Nova Scotial, probably to spend a couple of weeks. I've never been there, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding what I should look for in the way of shooting. I'm primarily a landscape/garden photographer, although architectural subjects also appeal to me.

Thank you, in advance.

Cape Breton Cabot Trail. Very scenic and worth visiting. You can take great pictures there.

I've had my 55-300mm for a while, and have mixed feelings.

Its great as a general walk-around lens. For wild life I don't like the slow focus and limited range. Once a while I can capture an ok shot. I am looking at a 150-500, or 150-600 as my next lens for that purpose.

Here's a sample.

Some additional items to consider. A) what is your spending limit when you return home and go through customs ? I.e. Should I travel to US and be away for les than 24 hrs my limit is $0.00 but $250 after 24 hr.,$800 after 48 hours. B). You wil have to pay 13% HST on all goods purchased. C) Know for sure Nikon equipment purchased in Canada only has warranty for Canada. Good luck with your shopping anyway !

As you don't live in Canada be sure to get the HST tax refund. It can be substantial.

I am interested in your Sigma. What condition is it in? Does it come with all the lens caps and hood? Thanks.

I am almost universally an outdoor picture taker and thus have limited need for a flash unit. Nikon Speedlights are expensive and overkill for my twice-a- year requirements. Could anyone please recommend a third-party solution that would work?

I came across this the other day. You might find it useful:

These are two separate things - speed and size.

SD card speed is identified by the Class of the card. The higher the class number, the higher the speed. Today's SD cards are typically class 10 and above. Most cameras today have memory buffers. Depends on the buffer size and how many frames/sec you shoot. SD card speed is important when the buffer overflows.

SD card has two sizes - regular and micro. They work equally well on cameras. But micros have more uses. I recently upgraded my micro sd card on my tablet from 32 to 64G. And use the 32G micro SD card in my camera to replace the current 16G.
