I watch a ton of photography videos and a lot of them shoot with the sun shade in the storage or reverse position. For the life of me I can't understand any scenario where this would be the way to go. Besides not blocking the sun or help protecting the front lens it just gets in the way. What am I missing here.

Real photographers don't do this.

I've only been doing it on real estate shots. How important is it for all shots?

Yes. Lens correction as well as horizon leveling are the first steps to my post production work flow for all my images. Capturing the image is only half of the process needed to create a great image.

The late Ernst Hass, Austrian photographer for Life Magazine for many years, was an avid Leica user and he held often workshops well attended on how to improve on photography. In one of those workshops there was a young woman, apparently a wealthy one, with a couple of Leicas on her shoulders and a collection of Leica lenses. She asked Mr. Hass which was the "best" wide angle lens she could use to make photographs expecting that he would say a Leica lens but his answer I am sure surprised her when he said "any wide angle lens if the photographer knows how to use it."
I bet she learned her lesson.

I had the honor to work with Ernst Hass back in the '80's on the Hasselblad School. I learned a lot during my time working with him. I might suggest that she would have gotten a different answer if she had posed her question in a different way.

I charge things myself, like airline tickets and some merchandise, but mostly I use my debit card for any transactions under 5k. The 29.9% interest is an eye opener, predatory as far as I'm concerned. If you don't pay off the balance each month, and many people can't pay off a large charge in one month, then you might have well have used another card, depending on how long you take to pay it off.

There is another hidden cost here. Every time you open up a new credit card your credit score takes a hit. They assume that you will run up your credit limit so you appear that much further in debt. I pay my cards off each month too. Just use them to accumulate cash backs and track spending but the more open lines of credit that you have the worse you look to the lenders. Unless you buy a lot from B&H each year, this might not be such a good deal.

Ya'll should move to New Hampshire. We have no sales tax or income tax.

A trip to Hunt Photo in Manchester New Hampshire is looking really appealing now. Just need to plan my purchases a little better.

I think that there are 2 different discussions going on here. The OP is referencing the Nikon 50mm f1.8G lens not the 50mm f1.8D lens. The two are very different beasts. The 50mm f1.8G lens is mostly a plastic barrel but it does have metal mount. The lens is made in China (I'm not a big fan of Nikon lenses made in China) and does have a bit of resistance when mounting it. Ken Rockwell also mentions this in his review. Mine is the same. My lens also has a bit of a focus issue that I am able to correct on my D850 body. Believe that it is a back focus issue that that is somewhere around +5. The worst that I have ever seen with a Nikon lens. Once corrected the lens is quite sharp and auto focuses quite fast. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I'm starting to believe my 2.8f is fine in lower light, as long as I use my tripod. The 1.4f will be better for hand held but I need to use my tripod and save the money. Thank you.

Please don't hand hold your camera when shooting real estate pictures. They will end up looking like all of the crap that you see on Zillow now. Use a good sturdy tripod with a good head and carefully compose each image making sure that all of the lines are straight and the rooms look natural. A 16mm f1.4 lens won't make your images look any better or sell the real estate any faster. Sharper, well composed pictures will though.

Just bought a Nikon 70-200 mm f2.8 from the Adorama website last month. They exceeded my expectations throughout the buying experience. They worked with my credit card company to verify the purchase and the 2 day free shipping arrived a day early. I have never been to their store in NYC but I'm sure that they are a class act also.

Wondering where most people use this lens. I know it is the first part of the trinity. Just curious as to where members have found a use for this that make it their go to lens for a specific application

I own one and love it. Use it mostly at 24mm for real estate images but you can also do some fun stuff with it like this at 14mm.

I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my post and bring you all up to date. I called B&H on Monday morning and asked to speak to Herschel as someone in another thread had suggested. Got a bit of a runaround as it appears that there are two Herschels that work for B&H. I finally got a Customer Service rep that was very helpful. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name. He listened to my problem and then asked if it was alright if he put me on hold for a few minutes. He came back on the line about 5 minutes later and told me that Herschel was tied up at the moment but that Herschel had told him that the MH-26A chargers were due in next week and I should expect to receive the remainder of my order by June 29th. Last Wednesday I checked my order status and the MH-26A was showing as in stock and would be shipping on Thursday. With B&H's one day shipping I received it on 6/22. Once again B&H exceeded my expectations.

Nikon's web page says: MH-26A This product is currently unavailable for individual sale. - what ever that means.

Yes the MH-26A is part of a kit. It includes:

Nikon MB-D18 Multi Power Battery Pck F/D850
Nikon EN-EL18B Battery
Nikon MH-26A

This appears to be a dealer assembled kit. From my order status B&H has everything in stock except the MH-26A. So I wait.

I ordered a D850 from B&H on June 3rd. anybody place recent recent order for a D850 with B&H and receive the camera? Timing?

Yes, I ordered an D850 from B&H on Apr 9th and received it on May 10th. One of the longest months of my life. Now if they could only get in the MH-26A that I ordered at the same time. I can understand that Demand is high for these cameras but a wait for a battery charger is a bit strange. Nikon appears to have some problems.

You can find the charger on EBay, then look for the "conversion plate" for the en-el18 battery.

or you can get everything for $55 at:

Thanks rfmaude41. I haven't heard good things about the non branded battery chargers. They don't seem to charge batteries to 100%. I'm wondering if Nikon is discontinuing the MH-26A charger and replacing it with a newer version.

Hi -

Anyone have any idea why the Nikon MH-26A battery charger appears to be on terminal back order? I ordered one as part of the MB-D18 Multi Battery Power Kit back on April 9th when I ordered my D850. I got the D850 in a little over a month along with the second MB-18 battery and some of the other things that I ordered. I called B&H this week to check and was told that they do not know when they would be getting the chargers in.

Thanks,

Drew
