Robert,

Congrats on your show.

I wanted to ask that in your website there is an image that I like a lot, mainly because the contrast. I would be interested to know you did it. Is it the same frame at different times? Seems like a lot of work for Photoshop. Light painting also seems to be out of the question. Thanks.

Great photo and composition.

This might sound like a confession. I once went to a football game close to Veteran's Day. I perused through the booklet you get and it mentioned this eagle that shows up at different events. It did not specifically state that it would be at this game. Nevertheless, I had my 300mm at high speed setting ready, just in case something happened. The national anthem starts and I stood hat in chest like everyone did. Everyone but the TV crew. I guess they are exempt. In any case, on the last third of the anthem there comes the eagle from high above, flying all the way down to the field diagonally opposite, where I was standing. I raised my camera and fired about 30 frames in three seconds. Sure, others raised their cell phone and took photos/videos as well.

Since that day, I asked myself whether I should have stood motionless or if I did the right thing. The photos turned out allright. But being a photog, and the fact that not everyone stood still, I went ahead and shot.

I am aware I am asking legal questions, but I believe some in this group have handled this situation before. I would like your opinion based on your experience. I was asked to shoot a wedding and I feel I a 2nd shooter will be very helpful. It will be the first time I will ask someone to assist me. Although it is my gig and for all purposes that person is working for me, what are my rights to those photos? Do I need to write an agreement/contract, just like I did with the wedding party? I’ll appreciate your insight and any tips you might have. Thanks in advance for your response.

Make sure you have the latest version of snapbridge in your cell phone. I found I still had an old version in my phone that did not have the remote control feature. May or may not need the latest firmware update on your camera, but you may want to keep it up to date. Pair up the camera and snapbridge. This video should help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOHXAh_7oxw

I have a D500 and almost always need exposure compensation set at +0.5, especially in matrix mode. Most of my photography (wildlife) is done in manual and auto ISO.

I also find the D500 underexposing on auto ISO. I usually set the exposure compensation to +.3, although I mostly use group mode.

I once purchased two XQD Sony 32 Gb R:440mb/s W:80 Mb/s M series for my D500. One worked fine, while the other failed right out of the package with an "Error" message. That did not give me a good feeling, but after I formatted the card a couple times never again had an issue. However, I make sure I don't use it for something important. But if it happens again, out it goes.

Although I would agree, I was once in Monument Valley which is part of the Navajoes nation. It was spring and I wanted to capture wildflowers blooming. Got out of my car with camera and tripod and was walking out into an open field. Didn't get too far when a pick-up drove up and a Native American got out with rifle in hand and told me to get off the property, that it was his private property and the horses on the land belonged to him and I could not take any pictures. I told him I was only interested in the wildflowers but his menacing attitude along with a rifle pointing at me made a certain impression. I left to go look elsewhere. I don't know that the Supreme Court has jurisdiction on Native American property. Just an aside on this topic.

I would wait until I am on the road and take his picture (since the guy knows his rights so much), which by then it would make a more interesting image than the wildflowers. But I wonder, if he shoots you, if he would claim to be "standing his ground". Since you "shot" first. No, really. If the guy has a gun, I'd get the hell out.

I use the BBF if the subject is moving. Made a big difference. If the subject is still, I like the half-press option because it has that "beep" that lets me know the subject is in focus, while the BBF does not. But that's just my preference. In reality, BBF works both ways.

Thank you all for your input. I understand now. Each one of my two metal detectors takes 8 AA's, and my SB-800 flash takes 5 AA's with the extra battery compartment in place. I also like to take an extra set with me for what ever I am doing. So I need a minimum of 21 batteries.

Now this leads me to one additional question. I would like to purchase a charger, (not necessarily a rapid charger), that would charge at least 8 at one time and when all are fully charged it would automatically switch to a trickle charge to prevent overcharging/battery damage. I would really appreciate any suggestions anyone would like to share.

I was a pipe fitter / millwright for my working career and know very little about electricity except it doesn't feel good to get shocked. ;~) Thank you CPR for the upload info.

I have this 16 bay charger for a number of years and has served me well, for all batteries including eneloop. Works for both, AA and AAA and inputs 400ma/channel. It is getting a bit hard to find lately, but it looks like it may be available at the link below.

What I like least is the batteries for my three cameras cost $180.00 each. And having a backup for each camera.

I have to ask, what cameras are these?

I take my 300mm, but with a good resolution camera you'll be fine. However, there is more to see than just the game. Get there when the gates open. Find interesting player to player interactions, check out fans face paintings as well. I can't speak for SFO, but while players are warming up if you politely ask the ushers they might allow you into another section and get much closer. Have a plan B where to go in case the guy in front of you stands up after every play. Try to sit between home and first or third to shoot straight forward (looks like you have that covered). Otherwise, you might have to shoot with your lens in the face of the fan next to you. If you take your family and there is a camera close by, keep an eye on the fan cam and be ready to shoot, just in case everyone is on the big display. One more thing, don't be all business and talk to your kids. They are there to have fun with you.

For me, when going on vacation the tripod serves for the selfish purpose of allowing me be part of the picture with my own composition. And if there is a tripod section I wouldn't mind.
