I am asking your advice about getting a remote trigger for my Nikon 5600.

I tried the Pluto and it didn’t preform as advertised. I saw a photographer with a larger trigger that controlled his Nikon from his cell phone. He left before I got the name of it. I am trying to capture hummingbirds without sitting and waiting and other remote triggered functions. Thank you in advance for all your help and knowledge.

I can remote trigger my D7500 with my smartphone using SnapBridge. Won't that work for you?

Make sure you have the latest version of snapbridge in your cell phone. I found I still had an old version in my phone that did not have the remote control feature. May or may not need the latest firmware update on your camera, but you may want to keep it up to date. Pair up the camera and snapbridge. Download the free Snapbridge App onto your phone and you can do everything!

BTW, I just found a neat thing on my 5600 that I wasn’t aware of. Do you know you can have the touch screen as a second function tool, and specifically to control ISO?

I've used remotes like - wired and wireless - these on many cameras.

try the miops camera trigger.i believe that is controlled with your cell phone.i also remember it requires few more cable that are camera specific at a minimal charge. good luck..both appear to have similar qualities, options. jim

I just checked the specs for the D5600 and it does have WiFi which means it supports the latest SnapBridge app that will allow remote shutter release from your smartphone. I was playing with SnapBridge yesterday with my D7500 and it's nice that you can set up Live View and select the focus point and release the shutter, all from the smartphone. Works really well.

The little inexpensive Vello units work well on all my Nikon and Sony DSLR's. Simple to operate, and great range.

It does have wifi but snapbridge uses bluetooth, which it also has.

The OP also needs to get the Nikon Manual App and download the D5600 manual, from which this comes.

SnapBridge needs Bluetooth to connect to the camera, but then it switches to WiFi for remote control and larger file transfer.

Bluetooth is designed as a PAN (Personal Area Network) with low bandwidth. It's great for texts and stuff to my watch and for mouse and keyboard connectivity. It will transfer a 2MB file, but that's quite slow. You can't get the Live View from the camera to your smartphone anywhere near fast enough to be useful. So for that high throughput requirement and large file transfer, you need the bandwidth of WiFi.

Additional hardware unnecessary.

That is true - I use radio control with my own transmitters/receivers/controllers and viewers (I'm a Drone guy, and a licensed Ham Operator, so I'm legal for even high power transmission in any of the frequencies civilians are allowed on, and MARS/CAP, etc.), snap bridge, wifi, Bluetooth, etc. for my own efforts. There are a number of ways to accomplish the task. For my gear that isn't Nikon, I can control and live view (even from great distance) for even P&S cams, r\c mounted cams, etc. that I have. Remote is fun, more folks should try it. The nice thing about some of my methods are large data volume handling and speed, and of course, great distance coverage.

BTW Snapbridge is easy to use. The first release had a lot of negative feedback which Nikon responded to.

For simple release I still prefer the small simple infrared release. But it is no longer an option. I’m not of the generations that always has my phone with me. I consider needing it an extra hassle. I had kept the infrared release on my camera strap. It required no charging or setup time.

But when I went to use Snapbridge today it was grayed out. I had the camera in Airplane mode. It does use both bluetooth and wifi so I worry about battery drain.

Save that money and trade in your plastic camera for something real; perhaps a d7100 or d7200...
