I traveled more than 15000 miles, out of the country to a third world country for nearly a month Thailand, with out a hitch in the trip. The photography was great. There was never a problem with the people, they were wonderful, the hotels I stayed in were great, the transportation while a bit crazy was just fine , and I never had a health issue while there. My son and his wife had planned a really great trip. My son lives in LV Nev. and I live in Mesa AZ, so I flew to LV so that we could travel together. Everything went off perfectly until we got back to the good ole USA. Once back, my flight back to Mesa didn’t leave for a couple of days, when the day arrived to go back to Mesa we loaded up the car with my luggage, including the Canon bag that had my 6D and a Tokina Super wide in it as well as a Canon G12, and left for the airport. We stopped at the SantaFe Casino in LV to have dinner on the way to McCarran international airport. After dinner we proceeded to the airport. pulled over to the curb at the airport, opened the trunk of their Toyota Prius to unload my luggage and everything was gone. Luggage - Camera bag with camera - Extra bag with items from Thailand to give to everyone and my briefcase, everything. The worst loss was the 5600 photos that I took on the trip, that were on the 256gb memory card that was still in the camera. Apparently we were hit while having dinner. Needless to say I am sick. My daughter in law took a few with her phone, thats all i have. The reason this story is here is simply to caution all of my fellow Hogs that you cant be to carful with your equipment. Watch it close. Many newer cars have electronic locks and apparently there are now devices available that neutralize the locking system. It’s all electronic, no marks on the car at all. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/16/style/keeping-your-car-safe-from-electronic-thieves.html?_r=0
Just in case you see a super buy on a Canon 6D with a 24-105 f4L (sn on body 04692252 and lens Tokina 16-28mm sn 8628715) so just beware the bad guys are out there for sure, and they want your gear. ——- Photographer with out a Camera.

Sorry to hear about your loss. For what it's worth you may want to register your loss with Canon with the serial numbers so that in case the equipment tries to get registered again there may be some trail to follow. Though that may not bring your precious memories back, getting a separate Personal Articles Policy with your P&C insurance company is advisable as they'll reimburse you for your financial loss atleast.

I have a question, would anyone have an idea what it would cost to replace a shutter. I have been looking at a 1DX with 1444K actuations. I understand the shutter is good for 400,000 but I thought it might be a good idea to ask this question now before I purchase this used camera?
Thanks to all who respond.

I had a 7D that had a shutter mechanism fail with only 18 or 19k actuations and Canon charged about $325 to replace it after giving the CPS discount of 10%.

I bought the discount this past weekend on the 5DS from Adorama. It arrived yesterday and I took two initial shots in my studio using my Canon 24-105L that I have read is not a particularly good lens choice for this camera. I have yet to try my 85mm 1.8 and 100mm 2.8 Macro, but they are listed as better choices than the 24-105. If that's true I expect to be very pleased with this camera. I will try my Tamron 150-600mm for grins, but I don't expect tack sharp results. I am thinking about adding a Canon 24-70 because it is reviewed with this camera as being a top choice. I won't be ordering that for a while I expect. One painful bill at a time.

Re the two photos attached...I did crop them a bit and made very minor adjustments to the RAW files in ACR. The camera was set to ISO 100, 1/125th, f/11, and the focal lengths were 82mm and 100mm. I used Alien Bees strobes to light the shot. I don't expect anyone to be wowed by these pictures, but for the first couple of shots out of the camera, I had to smile a little.

I bought this camera mostly for commercial product shots and for portraits.

Sounds like good trade off. No state or property tax. I should be so lucky. Long Isand and the state of Nyn has sales tax (almost 9%) local and State property taxes,as well as state income taxes. Even tolls on most bridges as well as roads. Welcome to NY-pay a tax.

We pay property taxes in Tennessee. Goes to support the local school system. We have voted in favor of a higher sales tax rate in preference of no income taxes. We like it that way.

After sending the party a cease and desist notice thru her comment section( since i knew of no other way to contact her) has since disabled the

This is what comes up when clicking on the item.

I will give her a few more days and then approach her about total removal of my photo.
Thanks, to every one whom gave goodly advice.

I've been waiting for this to be on sale so today is it I'm going to pull the trigger. Was only going to buy the body only but they also have it matched with the 18-135 STM lens, my question has anyone used this lens and what is your thought on it.. Thanks

The 7D2 is a very versatile body as you already know - you'll have a lot of fun with it. Lens wise, I don't have a feedback as I have not used that lens.

I don't understand the mail-in rebate thing. Why not have an "instant" rebate applied when the purchase is made? Wouldn't that be less expensive for the company than processing mail-in rebate forms?

Studies have shown that a sizable number of rebates don't get redeemed for various reasons and the provider ends up with a better overall margin factoring in the costs associated with administering the rebate program. I used to be in the direct marketing/fulfillment industry for a long time.

Yes I will let you know. I will be deciding within a few months. I'm in no hurry since I have the 70d. I'm going to research some more. Maybe, even look into renting. Thank You All for the great advice and links. I knew that I would get help here. My Photography has come along way since I started the UUH forum. And a lot of it is because of reading all the great information on this forum.

:D

These are my choices: Canon 6d w/ 24-70L ii f/2.8 or Canon 5DIII w/ 24-70L f/4. No need to tell me other combinations, or other name brands, it's just between these two. I'm not sure which direction I'd like to go.

I'd go with the 5D3 but switch the lens to the 24-105.

Hi Ugly people.

I've been looking at the 7D MK ii for a while and Canon has been selling the refurbished for around 1200. Today it is 999.

I pulled the trigger, could not help myself.

Just sharing in case more are left.

And to know that it has dropped 50% of the price it commanded just a year ago ..... it's a shame that I sold my 7D for it a bit too soon .....

Nonetheless, it's a superb camera and no regrets.

would love to hear from those only that have been to nyc and what lens you used, or better yet, what one lens do you wish you would have taken. I am headed there for a wedding over Thanksgiving and will have about one full day to myself to walk the streets..... I wont have full kit with me, and will be taking a full frame Canon 5dm3.
Thanks in advance for any/all input.

I was there recently with a similar trip such as yours and used the 5D3 and the 24-105 combo. Worked well.

I have made a decision that I need to move up to a Full Frame format. I have read and researched the specs but I would like to get opinions/experience of the folks on this site.

I am a Canon guy and I already have Canon Glass but if you have a compelling reason I will consider one of the other brands (Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus etc).

The 5D3 will get you the best bang for the buck. Best all around camera for the optimum price (with the choices you are looking at).

Did a similar itinerary a few years back. Sufficed with the 24-105 on the FF and the 70-200 on the cropped. Most of the time it was the 24-105 that saw the use. I find it's better to have 2 bodies and this set up while traveling to cover the range.
