I became interested in HDR some time ago but did not do anything about it except read a lot. I was about ready to take the plunge and zeroed in on Photomatix Pro 6. Then, out of nowhere, I became aware of something called Aurora HDR. It's apparently a UK product. Saw a lot of rave reviews and tutorials on YouTube that seemed to make take Photomatix off the table as far as I was concerned. Then, just to check if there was a newer version (2020) on the horizon, I went to the manufacturer's website and saw a series of posts from unhappy users. Major complaint seemed to be unresponsive Customer Service and descriptions of bad results. Some even said that they were going with Photomatix after being frustrated.

Anyone on this forum have personal experience with these two programs, or suggest alternative software?

I have done comparisons of HDR applications - Photomatix, Lr Merge, easyHDR, and Efex Pro HDR (free) by merging 3 bracketed images and sharing the results with peers and easyHDR comes out #1 or #2. For $39.00 it meets my needs. I use as a plug-in to Lr Classic https://captainkimo.com/hdr-software-review-comparison/

Check out free Free File Sync. Used for a couple years - works fine. I use it to backup my primary drive via ‘mirror’ ... one way. But it has multiple features as well.

Why all the angst? Don't comment if you can't add value to the original question. I've used Luminar from version 1 and I absolutely love V4. I rarely use anything else to process my raw files. Very occasionally I use DXO Photolab to make perspective adjustments but otherwise L4 does a terrific job. I am a professional photographer and don't need PS or LR. The sky replacement facility is a godsend for real estate photographs - use the supplied skies or use your own, I use both techniques as appropriate. The sky replacement takes only a few seconds and the masking/layering done automatically. Thereafter you can adjust away to your hearts content. Give the free trial a go or buy it and get a refund if you're not happy.

I’m with you two summers ... the main issue holding me back is DAM. I am hooked on Lr library but should explore Albums in L4 further and be creative. Maybe peel back the albums feature and be creative

Hello everyone,
So we have been having some cooler weather in the Tampa Bay Area. But the hot and humid months are not far off. If you are a photographer in Florida, any tips for staying cool? Even the early morning and late evening hours are hot and humid in mid-summer. I find this cooler weather invigorating and it's fun to get out with my camera, but I am worried my motivation will wilt away when summer comes. I don't do hot and humid very well.

This works for our Photo Club in Tampa area ... "wait 10 minutes and the weather will change"
Best offer ... embrace low-light, sunrise/sunsets and golden hour photography ... https://www.facebook.com/groups/229981613870251/

My friend who is just getting started in photography has decided he does not want the LR subscription. He tried to get the stand alone version at B & H and it was unavailable. Does anyone know how he can get it.

Thanks
David

Try Luminar same and more PP features, $69 ... decent Library but not as good as Lightroom

I have been very satisfied with Backblaze. Unlimited data backup and unlimited hard drives.
BackBlaze is my choice, silent, low resource use (but never had to restore - yet)

Last two days (after Catalina upgrade) in Lightroom, I came across 2 issues.
1) importing files through File>Import Files and Videos ... I have 8 Macintosh HD drives visible as a source
2) the USB slots on the MacBook Pro do not recognize adapters or card readers

Adobe Support this morning confirmed these are 2 of many issues with Catalina

Just a quick poll to see if any LR users hit the "auto" button in the develop mode as a starting point when editing. I started doing that and kinda like it.

Yup ... most often as a starter 'preset'. I keep my fingers on 'Command - Z' just in case it ain't better.
