I became interested in HDR some time ago but did not do anything about it except read a lot. I was about ready to take the plunge and zeroed in on Photomatix Pro 6. Then, out of nowhere, I became aware of something called Aurora HDR. It's apparently a UK product. Saw a lot of rave reviews and tutorials on YouTube that seemed to make take Photomatix off the table as far as I was concerned. Then, just to check if there was a newer version (2020) on the horizon, I went to the manufacturer's website and saw a series of posts from unhappy users. Major complaint seemed to be unresponsive Customer Service and descriptions of bad results. Some even said that they were going with Photomatix after being frustrated.

Anyone on this forum have personal experience with these two programs, or suggest alternative software?

Why all the angst? Don't comment if you can't add value to the original question. I've used Luminar from version 1 and I absolutely love V4. I rarely use anything else to process my raw files. Very occasionally I use DXO Photolab to make perspective adjustments but otherwise L4 does a terrific job. I am a professional photographer and don't need PS or LR. The sky replacement facility is a godsend for real estate photographs - use the supplied skies or use your own, I use both techniques as appropriate. The sky replacement takes only a few seconds and the masking/layering done automatically. Thereafter you can adjust away to your hearts content. Give the free trial a go or buy it and get a refund if you're not happy.
