More that idle curiosity: I have not yet upgraded and have heard that Picasa will no longer run on the new operating system (I use Picasa to border my images). Is that the case, or is it rumor?

Not sure about that issue. However, I just spoke with Adobe and there is a known issue with LR CC Classic not allowing tethering with iOS 10.15.2. Perhaps not with all cameras, I shoot Canon 80D.

When aperture was no longer supported I thought it would be a disaster. Alas the new iPhoto is fantastic for all but the pro looking for advanced editing.

Why is it hard for people to move on beyond Picasa? I never used it, but what was the magic and special appeal?

I only use it to put borders on my photos; I haven’t found anything that works better. If I could, I would.
Do you know of a program that I can use to create borders?

Not sure John, but I believe(my searching indicates) newer versions of Picasa are both 32/64 bit.

I would LOVE to hear if that works on Catalina! I always liked Picasa for quick edits and such but I thought it was no longer available, only as Google Photos.

64 bit compatible is not necessarily the same as 64 bit native. You'll need more information. See if you can find out from the source if it is really 64 bit native.

Tried downloading this and unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, it's for Windows, even though it says it's for Mac.

Bordermaker but only runs on PC s and iMacs and Sierra. High Sierra and above stopped the program from working due to the major operating system changes.

Because it is so flippin’ easy and completely intuitive. It’s a great way to start learning about post processing. That’s where I started. As I progressed, I wanted more control and moved on to LR.
