I'm curious that nobody seems to ever complain when they purchase a new camera that has twice the control buttons a super duper menu with way more sub menu topics and adjustments that they will never use or even look at, requires new computer software or patches to even open a raw file, but every time Microsoft comes out with a 'different' OS they say it is junk, trash or too complicated for their feeble brains to comprehend?
I also disliked W8 when I got it on a new laptop. Once I started using it I came to the realization that it is actually way easier to use than any of the previous Windows versions. Just so you know I started with MS DOS, 5 1/4" floppie drives and NO hard drive on my first PC, and have had every version of Windows since that time.
How about we take away that automatic transmission, power windows and seats, night vision rear view mirror, electronic ignition and fuel injection from your vehicle and while we're at it remove the central air conditioning and heat and those useless wall switches to control the lights in your home and go back to opening the windows in the summer and chopping wood all summer as well as walking to the middle of the room to pull a string for the lights.
Just asking and curious.

I recently had to fill a form in that required my religious beliefs. They wouldn't accept 'Jedi' as a religion and this got me thinking as to what category I actually came under. So my question to the literati of UHH is this:-
I am not an atheist, as I believe in a God.
I am not an agnostic, as I believe that my God exists and is knowable.
I am not a member of any organised religion and don't want to be.
So what word (keep it clean please) covers people like me?

My dog tags said Protestant NP. (No Preference)

I purchased an infra-red lens to attach to a Nikkor 35mm 1.8 on my Nikon D7100. I've exposed at 20 seconds and the pic was all red in my LCD and at 30 seconds and the results were a white LCD. Is the D7100 too effective at blocking IR?

Your shots will be red and require a color swap in PP. If it came out white, you're over exposed.
Set the shot up without the filter, install filter and take shot. It takes a little time and experience to get the exposure right.
I was using "Raw Therapee" for color swap most of the time. (It's a freebee program) GIMP also works and is a freebee too. Now I am using PSE with some plugins that do the color swap with one click.
Lifepixel and Kolari vision are good places to learn about IR and have good tutorials and plugins available.
By all means have fun with it. I ended up with a converted D70 to get away from the long exposures required with the screw on filters.

Greetings fellow Hedghogs. I have been trying my hand at night sky photography with a measure of success. To further that effort I have obtained a Meade LS 8 inch telescope and the, what I think, are the necessary adaptors. During my first excursion to Anza Borrego during the last new moon I had no success what so ever trying to take shots through the telescope with my T3i. Does anyone out there have any experience shooting through a telescope? The pic. is the set up I am attempting to use.

When you focus on an object with the telescope using the supplied eye piece then replace the eyepiece with your camera you are changing the optical length of the set up. You will always have to re-focus when you attach the camera. I did the same thing and didn't realise how far I had to crank the focus on the telescope after I installed the camera. There is a considerable distance difference in the set up. For practice, just set the telescope up and focus on a distant object that isn't going to move, install the camera and re-focus the telescope again until the object is in focus. Also remember there is no changeable iris in the telescope so you will be shooting everything in manual and will need to change shutter speed and/or ISO to get the shot.
Hope this helps and is clear enough in description of set up to get you going.

Yes he is still in business, I got an email from him just the other day. He is quite busy. He is repairing a lens for me. Just be patient.

Outstanding pics. Is there a way to do infrared without completely converting your camera as I know the conversion is permanent.?

There are IR filters available, they are made to screw on the front of a lens. They do require long exposures though. A reasonably priced alternative.

It is being built basically for the "Max" train, a people mover in Portland and the surrounding area. It will also have an area for walking and bicycles.
