Old stuff is "discovered" by younger generations.

There are those fascinated by old gear, some even use it...or try to.

Here we are in 2023 and some still shoot with pinhole cameras.

I spent some time working in camera stores. It was away to hone down the selection and not waste time. But there were always unrealistic hopes. "I want to shoot action shots of my son playing basketball inside with a camera that fits in my pocket and costs about $150."

I still enjoy "Days The Future Passed" with the London Festival Orchestra. I found a CD of Christmas music by that orchestra and it sounded the same as their instrumental parts.

In Search Of The Lost Chord's "Thinking Is The Best Way To Travel" had some remarkable audio mixing when heard on decent headphones. I always though that album to have a better message than The Amboy Duke's "Journey To The Center Of The Mind."

Sad to lose those folks.

AI is marketing crack. So much like "cyber" and of course "E." Maybe even "turbo."

Frequently sage advice is dispensed by the various photo-gurus without a single person asking "what kind of photos do you want to take?"

Frequently those asked, pause for a moment and reply "general photography."

Nothing is learned on either side.

Remarkable

I was cleaning out a closet and found some CDs with images...jpgs from older digital cameras taken in 2004-2007. The CDs had edges that had delaminated and others had holes where the coating had failed.

Meanwhile black and white snapshots from my Polaroid Swinger from 1966 are intact.

A 1904 photo of my grandfather as a young man at Niagara Falls is pristine.

A roll of properly processed silver based black & white film stands a better chance of surviving 100 years than ANYTHING digital. And please don't give the garbage about serial copying to the new best thing every time the computer industry upgrades or trusting "the cloud." Don't be delusional.

As long as you can see a black & white negative, you can somehow copy it. Do you need to do this for everything? No. But are there things you might want family to see in 50-100 years? Possibly. Will they have the hardware and software to retrieve digital files? You must be joking.

I would humbly suggest there are many battery NAMES from China. I base this on tons of microphones, cheap cameras, audio players, small appliances and so much more that are identical with many different names.

I'm always happy to be proved wrong.
