I miss :
- a daily newspaper
- looking things up in real encyclopedia
- bench seats in the car
- 3 speed on the column
- dad plowing moms garden in the spring
- the annual church picnic where the same family ran the same both each
- Sunday with Sunday school in the morning and preacher service at night
- my 4H picking up corn missed by the pull behind corn picker
- cane fishing poles and worms
- only 3 channels on our black and white tv
- Stan Musial

What about you ?

Many of those. I haven't thought about picking up corn off the ground for a very long time. It was always around 10/9 and school bazar season. So many fund raisers: cake walks, pies and cookies, pony rides, fish pond, etc.

I miss homemade ice cream and watermelon straight from the home garden.

Not having to lock the house.
Leaving the car running when going into the grocery store.
NOT carrying my phone everywhere. (yes I do that now)

The bench seat and three on the tree reminds me of a Chevy Impla my father bought in 1965. My mother insisted on a bench seat in front, and my father wanted a standard transmission to teach us kids how to drive. I'm not sure if three on the tree was still available back then, but my father wanted the four on the floor. Usually Chevy used bucket seats with a four on the floor, but my father was able to special order it with the bench seat.

By the way, daily newspapers still exist, but probably not in the Central Missouri Woods.

Don’t know about the Impalas, but I had 2 Chevy Chevelle Malibus back in the 60’s &
70’s; both 1966 models, with 3 on the tree, bench seats, and 283’s.

Bench seats in a car is one that I really miss. It was so easy to make as much room on the seat as you wanted. That would most naturally come with the 3-speed on the column. Everything else I can let go.

The Chevy I remember is around a 51 or so . Twodoor green . I was able to stand up in the back seat and hang on to the front seat.

Now that I started remembering there are many others memories
- my grandpa who lived in a one room shanty probably 20x20 a 100 ft or so from our house. I had my first drink of coffee with him. Mom was mad said it would stunt my growth. He had a wood stove, a two burner kerosene table stove an old radio, a bed and a table .
I grew up with him , long walk in the woods with Grampy and my two dogs Chip and Whitey.

I can’t get even the weekly delivered ( except a couple days later). As far a real daily we are just about midway from St. Louis, KC and Springfield 10 miles from town . So no hope there.

Thanks goodness for a really great library in town, every Thursday.
Other than that we don’t leave the homestead much at all.

Fishing from the Cement Boat at Sea Cliff State Park with my grandfather

Long quiet days on the trout stream and not really caring if I caught one or not.

A week by myself in Desolation Valley and never seeing another person.

I saw Musial hit a ground ball past 1st base so hard that it kept bouncing around the Forbes Field (Pgh) outfield wall and he was home before the Pirates could catch up with it. Also several studies have confirmed that those who attend church services have lower mental health issues than those who don't.

Letting small children stand up in the front seat when you are driving.
Letting children ride in the bed of the pickup truck.

Not the front, I stood on the back with my arms over the front seat .
