Why doesn't everyone just stay on Standard time. It works for AZ and HI.

Florida voted to leave Eastern Standard Time and stay on Daylight Saving Time year round last year, the state legislature passed the resolution, the governor signed it and sent it to congress for action. We are still waiting.
I agree with you, standard time should be eliminated.

Why eliminate standard time? It's the daylight saving time that should be eliminated.

Personally, I would rather stay on Standard time all year. As to the camera, what difference does it make? The only useful purpose that time and date settings serve is to keep the photos in relative order temporally, so I don't really care if the camera is off an hour, so long as all my cameras are the same.

One or the other. There are good arguments from both sides of the issue but please pick one. (Tradition is not a good argument)

If you want to adopt DST only then you would need to move the UTC location.

The ONLY thing changing is the time we roll out of bed; our dogs are on sun time and get up the same EVERY day, irregardless of what the clock says..... How does the old saying go... " Its a Dog's life ".

Why?
On the other hand. Since that was an arbitrarily location in the first place resistance would be based on "tradition"

Really? Your Nikon camera knows not just which day each year but what nation and what state/province/territory it, not you, is actually in??

Shazam! Maybe I should get rid of all four Sony cameras I own? Nah. Sorry, not to be nasty, but respectfully, I don’t believe your claim.

When you set up the Nikon camera, it asks you what time zone you are in and if you are on daylight savings time. As long as you stay in the time zone you programmed when the time changes due to daylight savings time the time will maintain itself. ONCE YOU PROGRAM IT. Switching from Sony to Nikon is your choice.

The time zone is determined by where it is in relation to the UTC in Greenwich. This location was chosen by "tradition" so it can be moved but you must move it in order to change your time zone.

I don't think that is necessary. We don't change time zones now, just decide it's an hour earlier or later.

There is a story that when DST was first proposed a member of congress from a mid-western state objected because the extra hour of sunlight would burn his state's crops!

Must be the grandfather of the congressman who thought that adding military personnel to Guam might cause it to tip over.

(My own poem, permission is hereby granted to re-publish as long as my name is attached as the poet, Hal Lillywhite)

The would be sleeper said, "well heck,"
this blanket will not reach my neck.
Unless I want to go quite mad
a short extension I must add.

I need material to sew.
I know! I’ll take some from the toe.”

And so he cut and sewed it on
to make that blanket extra long.

But then said he, “Well, I’ll be beat
for now it will not reach my feet.”

A silly tale, what’s that you say?
Like nothing that we do today?

Well think my friend of daylight time
which does the same with clocks that chime.

So sleepy drivers, cars they crash
causing them their teeth to gnash.

Then sleepy workers, bosses too
make big mistakes which they then rue.

In sleepy schools it must be fun
it sounds like snoring, 101.

And now the sleep that people lack
can also cause a heart attack!

Is it coincidence that this change rules
So near the time of April fools?
