I live in California. Visited B&H today in NYC. Was told that as of April 15, B&H will be collecting California sales tax. Didn't ask about other states.
Started a couple months ago in NC. :(
Think that came about with the Amazon decision.
If a company has a physical presence in the state where the purchase is made then online orders must be assessed at least state taxes.

The latest SCOTUS decision says there does not need to be a physical presence. B&H has no footprint in CA.

Or if they make a certain number of shipments to the state. B&H does not have a physical presence in California.

Yes. It's entirely up to the states. What state is NOT going to collect sales tax if it's a choice?
Andy
I'm used to it - some of my vendors have been doing it for years!
The states want their share.....

That’s only bad news for freeloaders.

That is fake news. The tax collecting vendor does
not need a “physical” presence in my state.
FEDERAL tax regulations have for many years required the collection of tax, but those rules weren’t being enforced. Now they are, and the vendors are starting to comply. It’s a patchwork quilt right now:
...B&H - yes
...Adorama - no
...Amazon - yes on some things, no on others
...Tourneau (high end jewelry) - no
...KEH - has been complying in recent years
Consumers have skated past this issue for years, now they are being required to do their part (and not just because of the damn wall).

It's more like the party's over for those skirting use taxes by buying from other states. Local use taxes have been in effect almost as long as sales taxes. It took the internet to help make this happen.
Oregon has no sales tax! (Yet!) I refuse to buy from vendors that still charge me tax!

No. The freeloaders reap the benefit of those who pay taxes.

That's been going nationwide for a few months. The politicians don't have enough money to waste.
