I just opened up my B&H shopping cart and saw that Sales Tax had been added. B&H has no physical presence in Kentucky and I have ordered tax free in the past. When did this change take place? Are there any other large online retailers that still don't charge sales tax?
On June 21, 2018, the United States Supreme Court fundamentally changed the rules for collection of sales tax by Internet-based retailers. In its decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair Inc., the Court effectively stated that individual states can require online sellers to collect state sales tax on their sales.
The sales tax is collected by B&H, per the direction of your state....and sent back to your state treasury. For a long time, buyers were to have reported their purchases at income tax time....and paid the sales taxes that would have been collected by the state.
Some states still don't enforce this law.

Internet sales are now being taxed, coming to all states soon I think - the free ride is over.

This has been coming for years. It has been reported upon accurately many times by the "Fake News" media. While a financial pain in the butt for us, it will give a little bit of last-gasp hope for the few remaining brick-and-mortar camera stores (clothing stores, electronics stores, etc.) that still exist in our hometowns.

Dale40203 About a month or so ago the Supreme Court revisited their previous decision and ruled any state with an in state Sales & Use tax could collect their sales tax on stuff purchased and being shipped to an out of state entity. Most states that have Sales & Use taxes "required" you to send in the Tax Due with your income tax; a MA tax examiner in MA doing an audit of our small company told me that that line was the shortest line in government (:<((. The small retailers have been crying about this out of state purchases for years so a revision was not unexpected. I believe unless you are making a pretty expensive purchase; I don't think it is a killer because you still get the free freight at over $50, and I can always find an ink cartridge to add, but NY's tax @ 8.0% (I think) on a large purchase is enough to make you think about if you are near a no tax state.
Personally, I don't think the change will make much difference to the small retailers unless they can meet the prices their larger competitors offer. Except possibly for the expensive items, I suspect most of us will continue to use the sellers we have learned to trust.
Taxes and death. Two things we cannot evade. We can cheat on them, but sooner or later, they'll get us.

It’s the law--it has nothing to do with B&H policies.
Oregon has no sales tax so I still would not have to pay any right?

The tax now collected by B&H has been discussed on the UHH forum on at least two previous occasions.
You should try READING the forum posts once in a while, pal.

The online vendors collect it and forward it to the states of cities. No sales tax, then they don't collect it. I live in New Hampshire and will continue to not pay online. Basically this levels the playing field somewhat between online and brick/mortar merchants, something local retailers, not just photographic, have complained about for years.
Except instead of requests to pick up things for them on my way home each day, now I'm going to be hearing from friends who want me to send in their online orders!

That should be correct. The law requires collection of your state's sales tax. Oregon has none, so there is nothing to collect.

If Kentucky is like most states with sales tax, you have been required all along to pay a use tax, which is the same as the sales tax, on out of state purchases, and you've been evading that tax. It's difficult for states to enforce the use tax, which is why they wanted the out of state merchants to collect it and now that is the law.
