You can get a strap from Pacsafe that has a steel wire running through it so that it cannot be cut with a box cutter by pickpockets.

In your hands, tightly, with the neck strap wrapped around your wrist a couple of times.

If they want it, they'll take it - but an OPTECH neckstrap diagonally across the shoulder won't shout CANON 5D mkII or NIKON XXX to all and sundry.

The FastFire strap may very well allow quick and easy use of the camera at all times, but to be honest, it does not look safe at all. Firstly, the camera will be dangling way too much unless you have your hand placed on it to keep it from swinging about. Secondly, a typical thief won't have any problem removing the camera from the strap within seconds. I don't see anything particularly safe about the FastFire strap.

I agree with the dangling part, but it really does seem to give you quick access with the strap clip sliding right along.
Unwanted "removal" may be easier by someone who understands the operation of the quick release, easier than an old fashioned double clips on "D" rings with a regular wide strap. I'd have to see one in use on a hike to see how much it bounces around. (Not just walking down a paved path.)

I always use a strap around my neck, but I do not like letting it dangle at all and I do not like to use it cross body because the weight is on one side of my neck which begins to complain after a while. So I carry it in the crook of my left arm, a position that seems natural and which keeps it from flopping, at-the-ready, protected it from accidentally hitting something as I walk along and pretty much impervious to theft.

When I use a neck strap, I am in full control of the camera. I know exactly where it is at all times. I cannot move without seeing it. Other methods may leave you blind to where the camera is. Next thing you know, it hits something.

I use a harness rather than a neck strap. I find the neck strap gets heavy and my neck starts hurting after a short time of using it. I have worn the harness for hours at a time with no pain. I like the idea of the wire and always be aware of your surroundings. Even though a harness maintains the camera in front of the body, the quick releases can be easily used to steal your camera, with any system.

I have noticed that if I shoot using the rear monitor people pay less attention. It is just a suggestion.
If in a group, always shoot with the group by your side. At night just ask where it is safe and again, do not shoot alone.

I always found to carry a camera the best way is to use the good old neck strap! (served me well for over 40 years)!

Black Rapid Sling, easy to carry cross the shoulder, always at the ready, close to the hands, harder for someone to attempt to take it. Situational awareness always pays dividends..

I wouldn't be overly concerned with the 'snatch and grab' thing in Europe - especially with a small camera like an A6500 except maybe in a few hot spots like Rome or Barcelona. I left my camera in a restaurant in Avignon, France and drove twenty miles before I realized I had left it behind. I drove the twenty miles back and found it exactly where I left it. Comfort is much more important than security.

Plenty of excellent advice so just to pick up on some with my two pence worth:

I dunno where the 2 pickpocket capitals of Europe are but not just the Louve in Paris, also Eurostar terminal in Paris! I experienced 2 pickpocket attempts on 2 consecutive escalators while going down to the Metro station! One of them by one of a group of noisy teenagers rushing past us with lots of noise, the culprit quietly standing behind me. I looked down to see two fingers extracting my wallet and grabbed it and him before he did a runner. He then started to yell for the police and unhappy French people started towards my wife and me so I had to let him go! There is a theory that Velcro pockets are almost pickpocket proof - nobody told the adolescents in Paris that's for sure. instead of pockets, there is a reason most French men seem to use shoulder bags and hang on to them!! I got one the same day.

I also use a good ol' US of A neoprene strap to carry my camera - not just for comfort which is most certainly is, but also to not have a strap that shouts 'steal me' in bright Canon, Nikon, or Sony colours etc. I also remove all 'billboard' tags from my camera bags, backpack etc or black them out with permanent marker if not practical. I really hope nobody steals your camera or bag, but if yours looks better/ flashier/ more expensive than mine, then I'm more inconspicuous.

If your camera or bag strap has clip releases, use a bit of Velcro 'one wrap' (not unbranded substitutes) and it will prevent accidental or deliberate unclipping.

Finally, as happened to one of our group in large public square in a long queue for a cathedral, if someone threatens you with a knife, let them take your kit.

Bottom line - my wife and I have been fortunate to travel to many interesting parts of the world for many decades and have experienced virtually no problems at all. With a few simple precautions without being obsessive you can make yourself less of a target - and keep a look about and don't go to know trouble areas is one of the best.

Be careful of pickpockets. On the Paris subway a pickpocket tried to steal my wallet, but I had it buried in two zippered compartments. It was safe and no one tried to steal my camera.

If possible, always keep one hand on the Camera, even when it is on a Strap, it could move around, swing a bit, protect it from Bumping into a wall or another person while walking, especially in a crowded area.
I also found the "Sling-Strap" to be more comfortable and your Camera sits at your side, closer to your Hand and Arm.
They also make some excellent "Wrist-Straps" if you prefer to Hand hold your Camera.
