You are very naive.

I purchased the Sigma 150-600mm from Abe's of Maine. When I first saw the lense it was for $789 $200 cheaper than anywhere else. So I contacted customer service and it was explained that the one I was looking at was considered gray market product which comes from overseas. It is the real item made by Sigma but Sigma will not honor the warranty on any gray market items. This is common throughout the electronics industry and cameras. After speaking with the sales agent and having it explained to me and ordered a brand new one and safed $90 with no taxes and my $50 dollar Veterans discount. I registered the item with Sigma and it is legitimate and new. I never order anything off line without speaking with a salesperson directly. Hope this is helpful. Oh by the way really enjoy my 150-600mm.

Saw an add for a Sigma 150-600 sport for $1349, new. Decided to check it out so I placed an order.

Then you find out its a bait and switch. If you want the complete lens with tripod mount and lens hood you have to pay full price. I cancelled and am a little relieved...I was having buyer's remorse anyway.

Bought from them in the early 80’s when they were in Maine and reputable. Tried them again in the mid 90’s when they were on Long Island and that is when they wanted to sell me stuff I did not need, but the bamera body I bought was a USA Nikon with the appropriate bits and pieces. Around 2006-7, I wanted to purchase my first DSLR from them and it was bait and switch so I declined to buy there (and shortly thereafter found an article that were sold to someone at a New Jersey address and has a high disapproval rate from customers). To me, they are not a vendor I would ever do business with.

They did something like that to me at least 40 years ago when I ordered a camera (Pentax 35mm) and some lens (don't remember what). They said they were out of the lens I ordered and offered a tele zoom that I accepted. It turned out to be a piece of crap that I was never able to use. Live and learn.

I'm surprised that as a long time member that you have not seen or sought information on the company before purchasing.

Perhaps a comment like yours is better conveyed in a Private Message? And the ensuing dialog should have moved to PM in my opinion. Is Not a discussion relevant to Photography.
Also, there are plenty of new members who will appreciate this warning about Abe’s—-and 42nd Street—-since they don’t have a long history with UHH.
Just my 2cents.

Another example of crude and rude replies. Lately the rude comments outweigh the useful information.

Can't we keep things civil and polite in speaking to each other on here? Impatient answers show our lack of courtesy and reveal our own pride. Did your mothers teach you, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all!" Some of us need our mommies again very badly! If we say such rude and snarky comments to complete strangers, I can only imagine how intolerable we must be to our own families!

Have you asked Sigma for a price for the mount and hood? Tell Sigma what they are doing and they might give you a break on the price. If you still think that is what you would be willing to pay (lens +mount and hood) you should buy it from them. They would then be stuck with the original mount and hood that came with the lens and it would be a long time till they sold them. It would look good on them!

We all (most of us, anyway) know who the disreputable dealers are, and to avoid them. You would think, though, that with all the bad press they get regarding the way they conduct business, that they would change and clean up their act. Apparently this is to no avail. Yet some folks at least inquire, if nothing more than to see if things have changed and we didn't know it. Unfortunately some things never change. But there's no need to hurl insults at someone who decided to check it out.

I hate to belabor this, but there was nothing snarky about my initial post, but more of a statement of surprise that a member with years of many posts on this forum had not seen or did not use the forum as others constantly do, but instead go ahead and make a purchase he undoubtedly questioned from the beginning. The first snarky reply was from the OP. My mistake was continuing to reply.
