Once again, Henry, of B&H, adds a dose of common sense along with sage advice. I've been doing business with B&H for well over two decades and thier service is excellent. My last order met their "free shipping" qualifications and arrived at my door step in central Wisconsin, USA in 3 days. Hard to beat that...

Oh, give it up. Nobody cares.

I hate to see a company's reputation trashed when it's not clear they did anything wrong. Are you sure didn't read the fine print? Apparently you caught on before it was too late so something must have clued you in.

As an off topic side note, I did trash a company I bought a defective car navigation/radio from. The nav froze repeatedly from day 1. They offered no recourse so I went online to every site I could find with reviews on their product and told the truth about how it malfunctioned and the company wouldn't make it right. I don't see anything in your post the Abe's of Maine did that. By the way I've never been a customer of Abes.

At the top of the page, click on “Search”. Enter 42nd St Photo in the search box, read all the threads on it. You will not want to order from them after reading the results.

Here as elsewhere when personal invective sets in, I say adios.

Here is my experience with them:

You are doing the right thing by NOT doing business with them. I had a very similar experience with another lens.
I had 6 pages of responses to my post.

Abe's of Maine and even 42nd Street were actually reputable stores at one time... many years ago. But they changed hands and it's been downhill ever since. I don't think Abe is even in Maine any more

I take it that Abe's was originally in Maine years ago. I did purchase a camera from them after they moved to Long Island, New York and they had started their escapades even then but not terribly bad. Abe's of Maine is now in Linden, New Jersey and they have gone down hill a long way. I would never think of purchasing anything from them again. Have a GREAT DAY!

42nd Street Photo Shop has been known for quite a while to avoid. Abe's of Maine, mentioned also on this forum, in the past months, as negative. Is another one to avoid.

I fell for the 42nd Street Photo bait and switch, but I prevailed and got exactly what I ordered after much bickering. The second time I ordered from them I learned a few days later that my lens (AF-S 70-200 f/2.8) was on backorder, notwithstanding the fact that their website said it was in stock. Surprisingly, I got the same price from Walmart.

Bait and switch is illegal. has been for a while. However the way they are doing it may be a work around. I avoid doing business with these folks. Glad you were able to cancel...

Im not sure that would qualify as bait and switch because they had the item in stock and weren't trying to switch anyone ... but it is IMHO certainly unethical to advertise a new item and then sell it without the things that the mfr includes.

Well I think its safe to assume your motive was to conserve capital, and theres certainly nothing wrong with that.

That being said shysters have taken advantage of that motivation for eons.
