So much rudeness here. I sent DaveO a PM telling him I thought he was rude. I'll be interested to see if he responds or not. This kind of thing puts me off forums. It's so unnecessary.

Not to worry that guy has a serious problem.

I made a simple observation and your thin skin couldn't handle it.[/qu

Perhaps but was your observation necessary? It seemed to me as a bystander to be a snarky comment to demean the OP. Don't climb up on your all knowing high horse until you are perfect and that will never happen.

Years ago I bought a Nikon D700 and, seems to me, I called Abe's of Maine because of a very good ad price. The salesman assured me the price was correct but, the camera's menu system is in Japanese; the "English" version was a bit more... That's when the conversation ended.

At the risk of being accused of being negative or attacking anyone, a simple search in this forum for “Abes of Maine” gives a page long list of threads that all have one thing in common - Each and every one warns not to buy anything from them. My first thought when I read your original post was the same reaction that DaveO had. The conversation went downhill fast after that but I did have to wonder about how a long time member here wouldn’t know that.

It’s not just here in UHH. You can find people who don’t know how to do a search within a forum or online all over the internet. This is not a statement against the OP...just an observation regarding the prevalence of silly things that circulate or get passed on online (Facebook, News, Forums, etc.) because many people do not take the time to do some background checking.
C’est la vie

If anyone is planning a visit to Maine please post a picture of Abe's, if you can find it.

In repeated occasions a majority of members here have stated that buying photography gear from non-reputable dealer could be costly. B&H, Adorama, Hunt, Cameta and Robert's Camera to mention a few are all reputable dealers with excellent customer service.

I am amazed that knowledgable folks still use suppliers the have been identified online as crooks.
And I have bought some used stuff over the years mostly lens. I try and buy new good buy's that seem reasonable.
If you are spending $1300 you don't want a bad experience. Good luck.

We have several topics that are repeatedly brought up here, from filter use to reputable vendors...maybe posting my observation will alert others to exercise greater care in shopping specials from certain vendors that frequently appear on the forum. I fail to appreciate that my post: "I'm surprised that as a long time member that you have not seen or sought information on the company before purchasing." as being snarky. My follow up post to the OP's "I'm more than capably of handling my research and transactions. Not looking for advice or empathy just spreading the word.
Thank you very much." was a bit snarky and I referenced the snarky reply regarding capability of handling research...fair is fair.

After all, you felt it appropriate to post a snarky reply to demean me.

Agree. Buyer beware! Get opinions online before ordering from an online seller.

You could save yourself time and effort by buying from these online retailers: Amazon, Adorama, B&H photo, Sammy's, and suchlike sellers who have developed a good reputation among online buyers.

42nd Street Photo Shop has been known for quite a while to avoid. Abe's of Maine, mentioned also on this forum, in the past months, as negative. Is another one to avoid.

To be honest I have bought from B&H, Adorama etc. My biggest supplier
is Amazon. They back me up on any product. If you don't need consultation this
is a good way to go Amazon. I must say though over the years B&H has amazed
me. I would every year stop in B&H when I was in NY (I lived in Philly) One salesman
helped me with audio for production (over 10 years ago) that would not break
the bank. He explained his thoughts on the gear package. I still use some of the stuff.
If you ask their experienced sellers they will say "why buy that camera" this is the
same and less money.
Today we have a library of opinions and information online. It is just amazing.

Amazon is good, but beware of non-affiliated retailers who are simply renting space on the Amazon site and shift you on to theirs.
