I would be very careful to retain every certificate, receipt and document related to any transaction with this firm..

First off, like to thank everyone for their input on previous topics. You all helped me greatly in deciding the direction I will be taking.

Now I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience purchasing from Best Buy. Now I know it is important to support local shops, however Best Buy is offering a D750 kit with a AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens, plus other goodies, for $2399.99. While I could undoubtedly find the same deal elsewhere, I have more then a handful of gift cards that would cover nearly have the cost. So fellow UHH people what do you think?

Just looked at Cameta. Same kit but free shipping on no tax if outside NY for 2397.00 ( http://cameta.com/Nikon-D750-Digital-SLR-Camera-24-120mm-f-4-VR-Lens-84866.cfm ). Same price at B&H. Plus camera stores know the camera and will help you if/when you need service.
Save the gift cards for a TV or a coffee maker, fridge, etc. :)

There is nothing wrong with buying from Best Buy. If you have a lot of gift cards and you know they have exactly what you want go for it. Personally I like buying from Adorama and B and H they have everything and have a good return policy. Nikon USA sometimes has good deals too.

Clearly, the message is to each his own. No consensus about BB.

I love buying from Best Buy. Perfect pricing, free shipping. They had my D800 years ago when everyone else was back-ordered. What I do not love is their Geek Squad extended warranty. I will never invest in that again. I got the three-year extended warranty. After a year, I submitted my camera for some service, and they replaced it, then considered the warranty fulfilled and that was the end of that. Nikon would have done the service for far less than it ended up costing me in unused warranty costs. I now insure my equipment through my homeowner's policy. Otherwise Mrs. Lincoln, Best Buy rocks!

Personally, Best Buy is the last place I shop for camera gear, here in Clearwater. My only problem with them is that when I go in to look/shop, I am usually wearing shorts, a tee shirt and sandals. (It's Clearwater, Fl. and the temp is generally in the 60's -90's). The sales people look at me like I'm intruding and either refuse or can't answer simple questions about a camera or lens. Now, I got decent help at the Best Buy in Palisades Mall, in New York, so this is probably just a case of a couple of store managers here need to do some creative firing. But, they've been taken off of my photo AND computer as I got Exactly the same treatment in their computer department when I was looking for an 8 gb graphics accelerator card. (I ended up getting the Nvidia TESLA GRID M3 3020 16GB GDDR5 which cost me about $2200 so it wasn't a case of me not wanting to buy anything expensive). So the store in Clearwater on Hwy 19 and Gulf to Bay is the last place I look for anything. As I said, some are really good (Palisades Mall) and some are horrible (Clearwater Fl). But since you have gift cards to defer the cost.. they should be good. But, as always, verify that it is a USA version.

Ah, I think I can explain the contrast: You weren't wearing shorts and flipflops in New York.

I will pick Best Buy over Walmart any day especially if I have any questions about what I want to buy.
I always get expected help at Best Buy.

Walmart only hires sales clerks not equipment experts or technicians.
You may also play hell finding help in a specific department.

*Also I suspect Walmart of selling possible "gray area" or less than top grade equipment

Nice one!

To paraphrase Country Joe McDonald and Garrison Keillor: 'I feel like I'm fixing to curl up and dye'! "One, two, three, what are we ....."

Two generations later, and it still seems to resonate.

I did the Best Buy route with a Best Buy Credit Card, never had an issue. You can get 5% back in rewards or 0% for 12 months. Many times I took the rewards, paid off the card and bought accessories the next month.

I was about to pull the trigger on the same purchase plus extra lenses over a year ago in Hot Springs, Ar BB. The almost 10% sales tax killed the deal--store wouldn't include tax in price match. Savings at B&H allowed me to purchase Nikon battery pack instead of knock-off along with an upgrade on a case. That said, just to have camera in-hand as I left store was almost worth it. If I'd had coupons and no taxes I'd have bought at BB.

Check Best Buy's website as well. When I bought my second DSLR I found it on sale on their website and picked it up in the nearest local store and it was cheaper than the same camera in the store! And I didn't have to wait either - just picked it up at customer service.

No problems with Best Buy when I got my 18-300 lens.
