Best Buy is great most of the time......
Returns can sometimes be problematic....read the fine print......
They do match some pricing.......
I have found the associates to be hit and miss on their knowledgebase of products..........do your homework
If you go in knowing the rules, it can be a great experience....

We buy everything we buy at Best Buy, of any large amount, on the 12 months same as cash. Make sure you pay off in 12 months or all interest comes pouring back in. Use their money! Also if you have gift cards for half. Do It!

First off, like to thank everyone for their input on previous topics. You all helped me greatly in deciding the direction I will be taking.

Now I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience purchasing from Best Buy. Now I know it is important to support local shops, however Best Buy is offering a D750 kit with a AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens, plus other goodies, for $2399.99. While I could undoubtedly find the same deal elsewhere, I have more then a handful of gift cards that would cover nearly have the cost. So fellow UHH people what do you think?

I have bought several cameras and a couple of lenses from Best Buy. Did my research online from different sources and Best Buy had the best price for what I was looking for. I ordered online and picked up in the store. I have not had any problems with them. I think you have found yourself a good deal, and with those gift cards, I would go for it!

Whether you do Best Buy depends whether you are near their store for the 'hands on' & 'talk to a human' part of the transaction. The last time I bought a lens, I took my camera in and had them mount their lens so I could check things out. But I am one the few who prefer the 'face to face' method.

The Best Buy price match is a farce. They will not price match any deal you can show them of like kind and quality. I tried when I was buying a whole new set of home entertainment components. The will only price match with what they consider mainstream businesses. Most retailers on the internet are what they call secondary marketers. They wouldn't even price match Amazon.

My response was about camera equipment, and I purchased camera equipment from them that I needed in a hurry at a lower price match by showing them a B&H add. Maybe they do not match for home entertainment components, but since this post had to do with photography, I responded in that fashion. Sorry your experience was not a good one. I guess it is hit and miss with them, especially with different products.

I have bought lenses & cameras from Best Buy, some stores even have people that know cameras.

The only downside I ever found was if you bring back a faulty camera under warranty they send it to their repair center. Their repair department fixed the problem but caused another one in the camera. Good news is Store Manger replaced the camera when I complained.

In some parts of the country there is a 10% off coupon in the change of address packages at the Post Office.

I have bought several cameras and other items from Best Buy with no problem. I returned one camera, their return policy was excellent and easy. I just bought a Nikon D7200 from Best Buy last week. One reason to buy online is to avoid state sales tax. Florida is 7% so I paid $70 which I could avoided by buying online from B&H or another reputable online dealer but I feel if I should support a local store if I use them to see and handle the product.

As they say,
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth..
If one is going to buy from a local camera store, (East Bay< Ca. ) Looking Glass is great. They have knowledgeable salespersons.
One of the best web stores, is B&H in New york. there prices are fair and service outstanding.
I think that trying out cameras at a photoshop and then buying on the internet is really cheap. It is no wonder we will soon have no Camera stores.
Many of the stores who advertise very low prices in Photographic magazines etc. are rip off artists. I am sure many of the readers can tell some sad story.
Maybe we should, tell the stories, it will save a lot of prospective photographic buyers a lot of grief.

If I had the gift cards, I would definitely go ahead and buy it at Best Buy. Just watch your return time limit. If an item is defective, they may have a shorter period of time in which you have to return it. You won't get that mom-and-pop camera shop warm and fuzzy feeling, perhaps, but the gift cards certainly come into play here. Or at least, for me, they would.

I have purchased a lot of camera gear from Best Buy after comparison shopping online and at the local high-end camera store. I get the same feeling of service and interest from the local Best Buy as at the very good dedicated camera shop in our metro area. I understand that of the half-dozen Best Buy big box stores in a 100-mile radius, the one I patronize is considered the camera center. They have staff with Nikon, Cannon, Sony or Olympus specialized training. All the service people I deal with are photographers with lots of experience. If I get a service person who is not knowledgeable, I ask for a different clerk. The bonus coupons add up, especially if you also purchase other electronics or appliances at Best Buy. You get a $5.00 gift certificate for every $250 you spend in the entire store, whether in store or online.

I have returned two items within the two-week return policy. I have also had to return one defective item with no hassle.

Having written the above, I still patronize the local "mom-and-pop" camera shop across town. I have a tough time called them "mom-and'pop" since they are the professional store in a large metro area. This specialty store has always matched online prices or Best Buy prices; however, I do not get the 2% gift card discount at the pro shop that I would get at Best Buy.

So, my suggestion is to go with Best Buy, especially if you have the gift certificates.

I live in Ft. Myers Fl. and we have no local camera stores. I normally buy from B&H or Adorama or Amazon. When the D810 came out no one had them. I happened to be at Best Buy and noticed they had several major camera company displays. I asked the sales person if they had the new Nikon D810. To my surprise he had 4 in stock. About a week later, I tried to up grade software and froze up the camera. I took it back and they they gave my another one no problems no hassle. I did get the impression that both sales people had very limited knowledge of photography.

I purchased a Canon 6D from BB, 6 months later it died, dead...
I was in Hilton Head 1200 miles from home.
The local BB exchanged the camera, I walked out,
They price match, some of their help are college kids, just like the local camera store.

BB great service, in many locations..

We have an excellent local store Roberts in our area, my 6D was purchased before I had meet the Roberts group,

My reference was only to differentiate between big box stores, chains, or a single store!

I wasn't referring to unknowledgable sales associates in that family owned camera store!

It wasn't meant to be an insult, I was just suggesting to support your local small businesses!
