So, you believe best buy has a conspiracy going against people wearing shorts and a tee shirt. I've shopped in several best buy stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina wearing shorts and tee shirt and have never been given the cold shoulder treatment. Yes, more often than not the sales staff are just this side of not having a clue but there are a few that learn the products and the others are useful for opening a locked display case. I've found that attitude not apparel usually has a lot to do with ones over all shopping experience, especially in places like best buy.

I have purchased several things from Bestbuy without a problem. As long as you know what you want and don't have any techie questions and watch out for the return date you will be fine. I will add if you buy on their 12-24 month same as cash plan make sure you pay it off in time as their interest rate can run up to 28-29% annually from the date of purchase. That can be a very hefty cost. I just ran into that and I was shocked to find out the back interest would have been nearly $1000.00 if not paid off (Citi Bank). However they let you know when it is getting due.

Why would anyone take advantage of the no interest period and not pay it off within the time frame?

Best Buy is an authorized Nikon seller so you should not have warranty issues with Nikon, should you ever need support in that area. And they will price match any deal you can show them for like kind and quality. They do like to upsell extended warranties, at least at my local Best Buy. The last thing is that they are mostly generalists, and may not have in depth knowledge of their products, but heck, you have some of us, for that. Good luck with the new gear.

Unless it has changed, their return policy is terrible. For anything $100 and up, you can only get a refund by waiting 6-8 weeks for a check from their accounting department. I personally avoid Best Buy.

The Best Buy price match is a farce. They will not price match any deal you can show them of like kind and quality. I tried when I was buying a whole new set of home entertainment components. The will only price match with what they consider mainstream businesses. Most retailers on the internet are what they call secondary marketers. They wouldn't even price match Amazon.

You can sometimes get an exceptional price for an item at Best Buy that would cost much more elsewhere. My only concern is that they do sell gray market items so be wary of that possibility. Otherwise, heck yeah, save yourself some money!

If you join the BB rewards club, you will also get credits you can use for accessories. Recommend their Geek Squad warranty. Very fair. I have a BB credit card for 6 months no interest. Have fun. Nothing like the smell of a new camera.

Don't get me going about Geek Squad!

I did a case study on them and their business model for one of my College courses a few years ago!

Their business model isn't to recover or repair, it amounts to replacing parts and charging the customer through the nose for the parts and labor!

You would be better off purchasing your electronics at a smaller mom and pop shop who stand behind what they sell!

It might cost you a little more up front, but you'll usually get much better customer service in the long run!

No... just that I wasn't dressed in business clothes or what ever. I think mainly it has to do with poor sales help in that store. The ones I talked to in computers about graphics accelerator cards had no clue. He handed me the box and had me read the back and side panels. Best Buy is no different from Walmart or any other big box store. Their department training (outside of getting someone that is a photographer (in photo dept) or a computer guy in the computer department is based on what they learn in an online training course. Which are the very basics. As I said, the store in NY had some decent help, the one in Clearwater are very bad. So, it varies from store to store. I figure that the photo sales guy just didn't want to "waste his time". The computer guy was clueless. Also the store was understaffed and the computer guy was trying to wait on 6 people at the same time. He stated that his department only had 5 people assigned to it and 3 of them were off. Also this was right after Hurricane Hermine went just west of us. We got the wind but little rain. I was replacing my graphics card because it died during the storm.(yes, it is on an uninterruptable power supply and I'm running fiber a fiber network so it wasn't destroyed by power or lightning). It was a 4 year old card and decided that it was time. I went to Best Buy because they had it in stock (according to their website) and were open where I would have had to order it from Tiger Direct, B&H, New Egg, Adorama or any of the other mail orders. Unfortunately there are no other free standing computer stores left that would have it in stock now that Tiger Direct closed.

I have bought lenses there and various point and shoot cameras. Never a problem. I prefer B&H as there is no sales tax and great service but Best Buy is not a bad place to do business.

Very true... there is a 7% penalty for buying local in Clearwater, Fl... well, they call it sales tax but it's the same thing.

First off, like to thank everyone for their input on previous topics. You all helped me greatly in deciding the direction I will be taking.

Now I would like to know if anyone out there has had experience purchasing from Best Buy. Now I know it is important to support local shops, however Best Buy is offering a D750 kit with a AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens, plus other goodies, for $2399.99. While I could undoubtedly find the same deal elsewhere, I have more then a handful of gift cards that would cover nearly have the cost. So fellow UHH people what do you think?

With Best Buy, if you spend $1500 in a year, you become a "special member" and Best Buy will allow you to try items out for 30 day instead of the 2 weeks before returning.... I have spent a lot of money with Best Buy...just wish they would have a better camera section in the store which I have written they about.
