So anyway, shouldn't LR-6 be installing as a stand alone even if it's an upgrade to 5 and has nothing to do with LR CC? I guess I should cancel my Credit Card payment. GRRRRRR!!!
Yes, LR6 should install fine and work as expected, alongside the other versions.
I have LR3, LR4, LR5, and LR6, as well as CS5 and CS6 installed. No CC.
In my case, it's just laziness and too large a hard drive... I haven't carefully checked that all my catalogs are updated to the latest successfully and taken the time to uninstall the older programs. No shortage of space on my hard drive, so no big "incentive" to do anything yet.
If I were you, I'd redo the download and installation. It sounds as if it hung up, didn't complete or got corrupted somewhere in the process. Or maybe you accidentally got the incorrect version for your operating system. It is a fairly large download and lengthy installation, so you have to be rather patient and let it finish.
Maybe it's just me, but I've found LR6 to be a little "glitchy". It's begun giving me a "server busy" error every time it starts up. Thought I'd figured it out... that it was because LR6 was trying to access some network storage devices that were powered down. Seemed to work okay a couple times after I turned one of the devices on. Then this morning it did it again, even though the NAS is powered on and running.
The "server busy" stops LR6 from finishing loading until I click the "retry" and "use a different program" buttons a few time and it goes away.
Never had this problem with any earlier versions of LR (though I see some people have reported it happened to them.... and a bunch of different "fixes" with varying degrees of success, most of which I've already tried). I had other issues with some of the older versions, such as hanging while trying to optimize and backing up my catalog before exiting. (I forget how I got those fixed... it's been a while.)
I'm beginning to think that Adobe is sort of ignoring LR6, hoping people get tired of the glitches and subscribe to CC instead.
