So finally got around to upgrading LR 5 to 6.... Although I do use LR CC mostly. Anyway, after paying the $84 and installing, I get this (see Attached)...after all is done, LR 6 is no where to be found but on the Uninstall Program list, telling me it was installed, I type in Lightroom 6 under all Programs and only LR5 launches. (PC obviously)
?????

Not sure where your Lr 6 is or went, but that C++ notice is not uncommon. Windows is written with Visual C++.

I had a similar issue when installing PSE 14 on a laptop. I found the executable with Windows Explorer and attempted to start start it. Instead of actually starting, I was treated to a pop up telling the program needed a runtime version of C++ to run and it exited. I google searched the specific words in the pop up and found a forum somewhere documenting a similar issue. The specific rev of the runtime version (not the latest version) was memtioned in the posting. I found it, installed it, but for some reason, PSE couldn't find it, so I dumped a copy in the same directory as PSE 14. Everything has run fine since. Sorry I'm not recalling specifics. The forum I found criticized Adobe for not using the latest version of Microsoft C++.

Let's clarify.

Do you subscribe to Adobe CC? If so, you already had access to the latest version of LR so I don't know why you would also want a freestanding copy of LR6. You may need to explain this in order to get the help you want.

From there, a Windows person (not me) will have to help you, but it makes sense to figure out exactly what you have and what you are trying to do first.

Yes, that is a point. Why go backwards? I could see ending your subscription but then you should have a newer version of Lr 6, where ever you were with Lr CC.

I have the full CC Design Suite. Along with older versions, CS5, CS6 and all the versions of LR. Several of my clients and people I work with either don't have or refuse to go CC. So it's a backward compatibility issue. for the same reason I paid for LR6 (stand alone) and LR5 doesn't recognize Nikon D7200 NEF files. Another reason LR-CC, has features not available in Stand alone LR6. Again compatibility issues.

Me either, yet I can if I want...uninstall it, after install had asked if I want to launch LR6, it opened LR CC...not what I need or want. As far as Visual C++, I know its a programing language, It was part of my computer science program in school. Was just curious as to why is was installing when it's already on my machines and up to date.

That at least explains your dilemma which is different from what the average Joe would have.

Time to hand off to a Windows expert!

What do you do for your clients that requires you to have legacy versions of LR.

Thanks Minniev, Don't think it's a Win 7 issue....Maybe Adobe, I just checked my purchase confirmation email which says...

Products ordered:
Qty Product

I edit Raw files for them along with side cars (not DNG's)...and some don't keep up to date as far as software, and not all edits apparently have not been backwards compatible, their words not mine, or look different than if I did it in the same version as they have. They ask to do it in the version they have, so I do...

That is what I'm thinking now too. You exchange layers, and the edits made by specific tools, and raw formats with clients? I realize it is your business (in both senses) but it seems like you are getting too involved with the technology it self and not the use or product of the technology, if you know what I mean.

A jpg or tiff, who cares if it were made by Ps cc for Mac, PSE 13 for Win 7, or Ps CC for Win 10. Are the image files produced different? I understand the CC vs stand alone issue. I still use Ps CS6 and not Lr at all. I'm not understanding the need for old versions that far back other than as a collection.

You edit RAW files. They may be leading you along. Does not seem correct or possible to me. Who are your clients that they even open your files with Photoshop or Lightroom, to print perhaps? Not at a print shop, the only issue there should be color space or bit depth.

If you are doing what you seem to be saying you better stop at Windows 7. Win 10 would not be happy.

Pretty much nailed it...tools, filters, etc,etc,...the files I send them are not flattened, for several reasons. One being they have the right to re-edit...Some belong to them and the deal is they get it back either in PSDs or Tiffs with layers. If it's their work/photos I'm editing, I don't have a problem, if it's mine, they don't get the layers /originals. Who they are...Art directors, Designers and Printers. I go through the same thing with Cad files not being backwards compatible.
And yes, I don't like getting rid of older programs that I paid for...unless I need the space on the drives, usually not a problem these days. Not a pack rat, just kills me to let something go that at one time cost big bucks. Like all my old Nikon F2A's and AI lenses. Sitting on the shelves collecting dust..(not really, keep um covered. :)

They send me the raw files...which I then edit. I send everything back, I get paid,....done

I already stopped Win 10 from trying to load....unfortunate when they stop supporting 7, we'll have no choice.

So anyway, shouldn't LR-6 be installing as a stand alone even if it's an upgrade to 5 and has nothing to do with LR CC? I guess I should cancel my Credit Card payment. GRRRRRR!!!
