OnDSnap, I have Lr 5.7 and was thinking of getting a stand-alone Lr-6.
Was thinking of going the subscription CC suite of Ps & Lr for $9.99/mo but I am older than dirt and will never live long enuf to learn all the Photoshop stuff. Maybe I should stay with Lr 5.7 and get Elements 14.
I am not sure which path I should take but I am open for any suggestions. ~FiddleMaker

Being older than dirt is fine, as long as you are not in the dirt. ;-)

So finally got around to upgrading LR 5 to 6.... Although I do use LR CC mostly. Anyway, after paying the $84 and installing, I get this (see Attached)...after all is done, LR 6 is no where to be found but on the Uninstall Program list, telling me it was installed, I type in Lightroom 6 under all Programs and only LR5 launches. (PC obviously)
?????

Maybe it's time to contact Adobe. I've used their Chat in the past.

I don't know Element so I can't really comment on it other than to me, it's just a light version of PS. You can certainly upgrade LR 5.7 to LR-6 standalone and stick with Elements 14. and it probably will be all you'll ever need. From my research on LR6 stand alone, I don't think it'll be available for long, when they run out, that's going to be it, some sites were saying the only place to get it was Amazon. Ya have to hunt for in on Adobe's site as they push you to CC. In fact the one from Adobe, if you have a CC subscription, you can't have a standalone LR 6 under the same Adobe ID, as I just found out. I had to signout of my CC subscription, create another ID, then update to LR6. If I sign into my CC sub, it (LR6) then reads CC. Confused? me too.
Photoshop can be overwhelming to the new user nut does get easier. If your like me and need to know it all, it can bog you down, I'll never use certain features but like to play. The good thing about CC, it's always up to date, and at $9.99 /mo. can't go wrong. You can always cancel if it's to overwhelming, you will however need a serial numbered version of LR-6.

I had a similar issue and had to change preferences in LR 5 not to launch and LR 6 to launch

I think I found the Answer. If you have LR CC Subscription (which I do) you can't have a serial #ed version, what they say to do, down load a trial LR CC and convert it to a Serial # version, So I'll give that a shot....I'll let you know later. Got to get to a meeting.

Strange.

It worked, but you have to sign out of the CC subscription in order to use LR 6 as a standalone, after signing in to an alternate Adobe ID. Sign out of alternate ID, then sign back in to CC subscription and it reverts back to LR 6 CC. Crazy....there are certain things in the CC version the will not be available in the 6 standalone (read that somewhere)

Wow! Well, I guess it makes some sense since the various versions could conflict with each other. Maybe put each on its own partition? Or, somehow separate them to eliminate the conflict?

I have the full CC Design Suite. Along with older versions, CS5, CS6 and all the versions of LR. Several of my clients and people I work with either don't have or refuse to go CC. So it's a backward compatibility issue. for the same reason I paid for LR6 (stand alone) and LR5 doesn't recognize Nikon D7200 NEF files. Another reason LR-CC, has features not available in Stand alone LR6. Again compatibility issues.

What features does LR-CC have that are Not available in LR-6(stand alone)?
Thank you.

Me either, yet I can if I want...uninstall it, after install had asked if I want to launch LR6, it opened LR CC...not what I need or want. As far as Visual C++, I know its a programing language, It was part of my computer science program in school. Was just curious as to why is was installing when it's already on my machines and up to date.

Can you explain this to me? On my Win 7 Computer, I installed, stand alone, purchased, LR-6. Afterwards, I see on my computer, information regarding LR-CC. It is as though, I ALSO have, CC.
(And also, Mobile.) The CC, confuses me! The LR-"CC" has even been listed in my Start Menu.

Does it come with, the LR6 stand alone, purchase?

Also, WHAT EXACTLY, is the difference, between the two, (LR6 & CC)?

Do you, use an external hard drive, to store all of your images on?

What is the best way, to get all of my images, which are now, all stored on my C:\ drive, over to, my new external hard drive?

Do I Cut and Paste them all, folder by folder? OR, do I have to, Drag and Drop them all? I would Prefer to, cut and paste them if I could?

Which way, do you, think, is easier?

Thank you very much, for all of your advice. I really appreciate it.
