There is no open season on black males. There were 6,000 black youths killed last year by other blacks. Why is there no mention of this?
Also if you resist arrest, attack the officer or whatever you deserve to die. If the officer says stop you stop. If he says put hands behind your back do so. Guess what if they are wrong then go to court like humans do and file a complaint against the officer and obey the law. How simple is that. If you resist all bets are off.

WTF. This is a post from a bloke wanting to know if it's safe to take photographs in a certain place at a certain time. He did not need this biased bollocks!

What a bunch of ignorant nonsense you speak! 238 blacks killed by police in 2014. Total number of police killed by blacks and whites in 2014 51!

Just google the question.

Perhaps your evaluation is correct, but I will side with the police. fact is that more police have been killed by black men than black men by police.

I believe it is officially closed that early in the morning, however, there is no way to prevent people from going to the location you are talking about.

The attached is from the August Supermoon event. It was taken in that same area.

Check for a website http://www.libertystatepark.org/ is one.
It shows the hours of the park being 6am to 10pm.

If you want to be there early I would contact the local police or the state park police and let them know, so you won't be hassled, and may be protected.

Good luck with your efforts.

I have become very wary of my insurance on camera's etc.
Having been turned down by State Farm on a camera stolen
(documented by police reports) after an UPS delivery
on an ebay sale. I have looked into pro insurance but it is expensive and has a big deductible. My agent tells me that I am covered even in other countries for stolen gear. But she knows I am an older creative marketing guy and she warned me that if it was for work they wouldn't cover anything. Last week shot 1800 people Marathon for a cause. Had 8k in gear with me. Carried the camera's with me the whole 3 days. I would worry about losing gear in a night time park shoot. Any thoughts on insurance companies that you can't trust?

You conveniently limit it to 2014. I'm talking about since the inception of this country. Now go back and recalculate.

Black on black violence is not the issue here. I realize that like many UHH posters, you have some difficulty remaining on task. First take your medication. Then try to understand the nature of the post.

I am not on medications, never have been. Tough to be on such when running a business and flying aircraft and be legal.
Just responding to drivel like yours when it comes up.

How safe is it in Liberty State Park, NY in the wee hours? Especially toward the south end. I know that there are police patrols throughout the night but am looking for some hopefully first hand knowledge. I am interested in getting a time lapse of the sunrise over Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty but to do so I have to be set up and ready to shoot by 3:30 am till 7:30ish. I am assuming that quite a few photographers would use this location and hope that there is at least one there to keep company. :?:

Pete, I read the first page of replies, didn't I tell you what your hearing, that's Jersey City!, beautiful but they do have their problems, could you adjust your timing and exposures to simulate to an extent the early morning, I know the sun would be wrong but..., I know I don't even go to our beaches alone here in Staten Island early in the AM.

No The police do not get a pass because their job is dangerous, and they don't get a pass when they do something wrong. The police should get a pass from being abused and unappreciated when they have done nothing wrong.
Everyone is "innocent until proven guilty", until, it seems, that premise is to applied to law enforcement.

Since neither New York or New Jersey care enough about their citizens to allow them to legally carry a firearm for protection, and do not recognize out of State permits, like my Ohio carry permit, I wouldn't even consider it. This is not a political statement, it is just how I feel about safety and the ability to protect myself from sub-human scumbags.

Just be careful about the police. If you are sneaking around in park at night they might just shoot you first and then check what you are doing :?

What an asinine, idiotic statement.

Possibly a good idea, but the police will never tell you that you will be safe. Suppose something happens. Would you be able to blame the police because they said you would be safe?

On the other hand, would the police tell you that they cannot do an adequate job of maintaining public safety, so you shouldn't go there?

No matter how much medical and camera insurance you have, you'd be taking a chance. How much of a chance is the big question. If you have half a dozen big guys with baseball bats, that might help.

You are right Jerry, just stay home, you don't need to do this. Just like going to 3rd world countries you could lose your head.😂

If you are that concerned about your safety and keeping your equipment from being pillaged I have a suggestion. Hire an armed security guard from a reputable agency (like Pinkerton, e.g.). I can't imagine that it could cost a huge amount of money to do so and, if you think about it, whatever it costs will be offset by your peace of mind. I imagine it would be very difficult to concentrate on getting great photos if you spend the morning looking over your shoulder for a bad guy.
