Love this, great shot. I do a nature column for a local paper. One of my upcoming ones is about woodpeckers, of which Flickers are a member. Flickers have the longest tongue of this family, up to two inches beyond the bill.

You certainly could Jill. I used to think the name flicker was because of the way they flick their tongue. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you so much Graveman, very interesting comment. I have two other post, one of a male and one of a female if you would like to see them. The female appears not to have a tail. And if you could use any of these pics, feel free to do so. I would love to read your article.
