Longest tongue?

I kept seeing this flicker flicking its tongue out. It took several shots to capture it though, and was amazed as to how long it really was. Just thought you birders might get a kick, or a lick, out of this shot. He must approve of the suet cake.

I've always loved Flickers ..... and simply had no idea their tongue was that long....imagine that

that's a neat shot...the flickers are very shy around here...rarely see one.

Nice catch !!

They need those tongues to chase insects through small holes in trees. They are very similar to hummingbird tongues that have to reach deep into flowers for nectar.
