Yes they do eat aphids. You can buy a container with about 2000 lady bugs in it for about $10. We did it and within a few days the aphids were gone and then the lady bugs flew off to find more. Good photos by the way!
The Ladybird beetle is one of the few insects where the larvae eat the same food source (aphids) as the adult.

This ladybug nymph is only 3-mm body length. This image is about 36:1 or 36x life-size.

omg that's creepy, but now I can't wait to get some aphids this summer so I can photograph them. Great photo!

Funny. But I agree. Even pests are more interesting when you have a camera.

Good shot. I have never actually seen a ladybug eat an aphid, even though I know they do.

I will have to go looking for aphids now. Do those awful orange ladybugs eat aphids? It would give me a reason to like them better.

The awful orange ladybugs are actually Multi-colored Asian Lady beetles (and they bite). Native Ladybugs are red and do not bite humans.

Those awful orange lady bugs can be your best friend when you have aphids.

That's why it kills me to spray my roses.

Really good pictures of all the bugs.

Definitely what we call a "stink bug". I'm not sure what the technical name is. Someone posted shield bug. That may be what it's actually called. When I was growing up though they were stink bugs.
