I think photographers are masochists at heart. Who else would take twenty photos of the same flower just to make sure they got it right?

Not me. I would rather snap one shot of the flower, move to the next photo, then get home to find I got it wrong!!

Hmmm.......wait.....so yeah, I guess I am a masochist too.

Hello Steve I vote new only some members and myself included may not be able to compete ever week but hence weekly challenge is the name of the game. I will also go along with no self voting even if means I will not receive my ONE usual vote. Thank you for working so hard at the things you do for the members here at uhh. Saying hello from Pittsburgh.

Steve, I applaud your dedication to the weekly challenges and your desire to make these challenges fun for everybody, even if it means even more work for you. Bravo!
I think that the idea of a weekly challenge where the participants must shoot their entries during the week of the challenge is great. It makes people want to get out and shoot more and I personally have found myself paying more attention to my surroundings when I'm out, thinking about this weeks theme and looking for a good shot.
That said, I understand that people can't always get out to shoot according to the theme for various reasons and for that reason, I thin that dual challenges would be a great idea. Lord knows I've wanted to enter archived photos enough times but have not because I wanted to try to stay within the guidelines.
So, if you are willing, I vote for side by side challenges.

since I once placed 4th with an archive photo, I have to vote AS-IS :-)

Thank you Steve for all you have put into this. I like the rules the way they stand. I enjoy assigned projects. I did take advantage of an older photo once. I did not enter this time because the photo was about a year old. You are doing a tremendous thing here that gives us all a chance to put our photos on display with feedback.

New only but make the windows 30 days or less. It will all balance out over time.

Not vote for yourself, although I can't see where one vote will make any difference.

I've never participated...but this discussion has convinced me to get involved. I'd prefer NEW only. Greetings from Downeast Maine!

Perhaps I am missing something Steve, but it seems to me that one of the choices.....two separate challenges.....completely solves the disagreement between new & archived (as is) versus just new. So as long as you are willing to put in the additional time (which your are or wouldn't have offered the choice) why is there a vote and why wouldn't everyone select the solution and be done with it? :?

And yet, it isn't the popular choice...
