I agree with you that you shouldn't have new photo's competing against old but what is the problem with a second competition where older photo's are not only allowed but encouraged?

I understand a preference for entering one competition and not the other
but not wanting other photographers to have a competition that you have no interest in entering , why is that?

I actually have no issue with a separate competition, however, competition kind of loses its meaning when all you are doing is retrieving old photos. It's redundant as we already have a section to show your photos. Where is the challenge?

The entire concept behind the WPC, I believe, is to challenge us to become better photographers. Pulling from old photos does not do this. It's like grading on a curve: those who accept the challenge and follow the rules are awarded a grade; those who don't do the same are also awarded a grade but unfairly believe they have competed when they haven't. If you wish to be a "C" grade photographer, by all means use your archived photos - but, if you wish to be an "A" grade photographer you must make the effort and follow the rules or guidelines. You only cheat yourself.

Another analogy would be a race between two people. It's ten miles long. But because one of the racers is new he only has to run five miles to compete. Is this fair? The runner doing the ten miles hardly stands a chance against the racer only doing five. The runner only racing the five miles is cheated as well because he wasn't challenged to the same extent and it is doubtful he will improve.

At this time, I do not have time to compete because life happens. I have thousands of archived photos but chose not to enter them because I do not feel it would be beneficial to my photography growth and Lord knows I could use it! Instead I use what time I do have to learn more about this Art or Science we call photography. Just my two cents and I hope I answered your query.

I would have to say "new only". I use to enter the photo I was able to take the week of the challenge because I thought that was the challenging part of the task. Then I found out you could use older shots and started using them when I couldn't find the time to get out and shoot. After a few more challenges I lost interest in doing it at all because it felt like something was missing....it was that feeling you get when you are able to accomplish something within a certain time limit. And even more so if you got a few votes for the time and trouble you put into it. Pulling from the archives felt pretty much like show and tell from back in the grammar school days. And also felt like I cheated myself of a good challenge in creativity.
I would have to say "new only". I use to... (show quote)
