How can one try and do something?

I think the correct phrase is "try to," and yet I constantly hear and read "try and." It does not make any sense.

What really bugs me is when someone's intonation, for virtually every sentence, is the same as when asking a question when simply they are simply stating a fact. Example - "I went to the beach today and saw a duck? Then I chased the duck into the water?" It was so much fun?"

Another obnoxious observation recently was a newscaster pronouncing Putin as "Pe-u-din". I found it hard to believe that after several days nobody corrected her. At least she didn't end every sentence sounding like she was asking a question.

Ditto that! Since when do declarative sentences end like questions?

Getting off the verbal for a minute, I see more and more drivers who do not know how to make a left turn at a traffic light. When the light is green, they wait at the white line for an opening to turn. The light turns red, and then they go through the cycle again.

The light is green! You are allowed to go through it. Then you wait for an opening. When the light turns red, the oncoming traffic will stop, and you turn.

The one that irritates me "If you will" what if I won't? Commentators on TV use that one a lot.

How about the expression "No problem" when in most cases the response should be "Your welcome" it drives me nuts. Maybe I am over reacting to this one but it just sounds wrong to me.

That's definitely overused. I could understand if the request might be a problem, but in most cases it's meaningless.

I've always been annoyed by speech fads "Radical!" "go for it" "let's DO this", etc. But the new fad of starting every other sentence with "So" drives me NUTS! Especially annoying on NEWS shows like Fox Business channel where the people are SUPPOSED to be intelligent.
Sad how a word or phrase catches on so quickly.
Why do people feel such a need to copy how others talk?
Another one, almost as bad "I could care less".
The phrase should be "I could NOT care less".

You know, I totally agree with you, you know. You know, people should learn to speak properly in the 21st Century environment, you know. You know, with all of the education that we receive, which is, you know, at no expense to most families, we should all speak and write properly, you know. You know, math is as big problem for many of us too, you know. You know, many us us have a problem computing how much of a tip we should give to waiters and waitresses, you know. And you know, that should be easy enough for us, you know. You know, I think I'm finished with my rant, you know.

it wasn't that long ago that people began sentences with "like."

Maybe you've noticed this, something that seems to be getting more popular. I was taught to pronounce the word "the" as "thee" when it came before a vowel. For example, "thee apple," or "thee atmosphere." Now, most people seem to be saying "the apple" and "the atmosphere."

Sorry Jerry you are behind the times, forget thee and the, the word now is 'da'. We even have a TV show in this country called 'Dick and Dom in da bungalow'. It consists of two half wits pandering to the masses who's shirt collar size exceeds their I.Q.

My pet peeve is the mispronunciation of realtor and realty. They say, "Re-la-tor and re-la-ty." instead of "real-ty and real-tor." Even realtors mispronounce their profession.

What makes me really sick though;
at times I inadvertently bow to the
