I've always been annoyed by speech fads "Radical!" "go for it" "let's DO this", etc. But the new fad of starting every other sentence with "So" drives me NUTS! Especially annoying on NEWS shows like Fox Business channel where the people are SUPPOSED to be intelligent.
Sad how a word or phrase catches on so quickly.
Why do people feel such a need to copy how others talk?
Another one, almost as bad "I could care less".
The phrase should be "I could NOT care less".
I've always been annoyed by speech fads "Radi... (

I have often wondered about how "I couldn't care less" got corrupted into "I could care less." I first encountered that phrasing in 1963, where the drill sergeants used it. Frequently.

Let's see,
When someone says we'll do this on a going forward basis, I always thank them for ruling out time travel. When they " take ownership" I ask if they need me to sign a deed.
I spent many years running businesses and in all that time I never once solved "an opportunity".
Lastly the phrase "get money" always hits me like a dentist drill. Not earn or make money. No connotation of effort, just acquisition.
Whew. I feel better now.

How much we all who ponder the end of meaning in what has eroded while we watched will be.

One phrase I dislike is 'my bad' which is being used more often both on UHH and American TV. 'My Bad' what? The English language has various alternatives for saying 'sorry my mistake' why use a stupid nonsensical phrase like 'my bad'? I also think that people who are unable to string a sentence together with out using 'Ya know' and 'like' every other word should be taken out and thrashed to within an inch of their lives for crimes against the English language.
You know, my Dad used to say "Ya Know" all the time (I guess it was his way of making sure us 'kiddies' were paying attention) The one I hate is "like" which I catch myself saying all the time. It's maddening, and I guess, "My Bad"!

Yeah! Like that's fully sick man.
Pro basketball players are taught to say "you know".

Yes I agree 'my bad" is ridiculous - another we have in the UK, amongst teenagers particularly, is "Init "at the end of every sentence.
I sometimes wonder if we are all being taught a new language in order that we can communicate with the aliens from outer space when they eventually land on earth!!

it wasn't that long ago that people began sentences with "like."
Maybe you've noticed this, something that seems to be getting more popular. I was taught to pronounce the word "the" as "thee" when it came before a vowel. For example, "thee apple," or "thee atmosphere." Now, most people seem to be saying "the apple" and "the atmosphere."
