I am dreaming of the day when I can go from waking up and back to sleep without hearing some normal activity labeled as "awesome". The fact that I saved $2 on a new hard drive is not "awesome" as my neighbor declared.

If you study the history of the English language, I believe you will find complaints from every generation about the deterioration of the language. Language evolves, the same as everything else. Can you read Medieval English?(Chaucer) If this was all I had to worry about, I would be extremely happy.

Getting off the verbal for a minute, I see more and more drivers who do not know how to make a left turn at a traffic light. When the light is green, they wait at the white line for an opening to turn. The light turns red, and then they go through the cycle again.

The light is green! You are allowed to go through it. Then you wait for an opening. When the light turns red, the oncoming traffic will stop, and you turn.

Actually I agree with you. However, I was informed during a $95 lecture from a PA State Cop that doing that is illegal. You are required to stop at the line and wait for a break in the flow of oncoming traffic. I was required to pay the lecture fee to the local District Justice.

I hate to say it, but one must admit that language changes. My problem is that I'm in the group (65+) who doesn't want to change any more. Example: I can't persuade my grown children that "me" is not the subject of a sentence. My grandchildren are delightful products of a different generation and speak accordingly. Worse yet, the language misuse that could drive me to violence won't even be noticed by my grandchildren's children. Thankfully, I will be either deaf or dead by then.

I've always been annoyed by speech fads "Radical!" "go for it" "let's DO this", etc. But the new fad of starting every other sentence with "So" drives me NUTS! Especially annoying on NEWS shows like Fox Business channel where the people are SUPPOSED to be intelligent.
Sad how a word or phrase catches on so quickly.
Why do people feel such a need to copy how others talk?
Another one, almost as bad "I could care less".
The phrase should be "I could NOT care less".

I had an ex-wife that ended EVERY Sentence with, "And Everything" Drove me absolutely crazy.

I don't know how these speech fads start or why people incorporate them ad nauseum. If I hear one more person say "AT THE END OF THE DAY" I'm going to go "POSTAL"

OK so totally rad conversation, dude. Thanks for like bringing it up on UHH.

I agree with you 100%. There are many things in conversation that are irritating such as words, Like, So and Ok to begin a conversation, using An and And interchangeably or using then and than interchangeably.

I read UHH every day and it amazes me that people who I assume are educated and well rounded men and women have no idea how to spell, speak clearly in the written word and generally don't care how they come across to others. I was taught to always make a good impression whether writing or speaking and I try to adhere to that still today. It seems that many people these days have no sense of self discipline. I try to write/type properly so people will understand what I am saying for fear they will think I am uneducated if I am sloppy. Will I make a typo sometimes? Of course I will and I may not catch it. That is to be expected. But to consistently write terribly is a tragedy in my opinion.

When I look at a comment on UHH and honestly have no idea what the person is asking because of slang words or misspelling then I go to the next posting. Yes there are some postings I cannot understand.

I'm just sayin.

As a former English teacher I am blessed by all this chatter! Language is like Indiana weather. If you do not like what you are hearing, be patient. It will change.
