and I believe this is a slightly unfair comparison... if someone were to look into Republicans who have shot and killed people you would find a similar list. I no longer deal with politics anymore because of the plain and simple hate that is spewed about from both sides. All people have apparently lost the will or the ability to Compromise... thats a fact that can never be debated so I wash my hands of it completely.. but I did want to make the point that your point is totalled one sided and lacks any sense of compromise.

Where there's a will, there's a way!

Guns are also making crime a lot harder to get away with. Most will agree.

So now, the president is going to make it his mission to disarm the American citizens. Funny how it wasn't a big deal, when he was campaigning last time. Gun control does not equal votes. He may not have to run again, but the congress does. That's going to be another 'ram it down our throats', topic.

And how would this be enforced? Random police checks? BATF agents making house calls?

Columnist Michelle Malkin: "Forget gun control. America needs government control. Have you noticed the common thread among several mass killings and homeland security incidents lately? Time and again, it's the control freaks in Washington who have fallen down on their jobs, allowing crazies, creeps and criminals to roam free and wreak havoc while ignoring rampant red flags. … The motto of our homeland security overlords is 'not on our watch.' But like so much else attached to our post-9/11 national security bureaucracy, that motto has become a punchline. With the feds and military leaders looking the other way or closing their eyes altogether to menaces within their ranks, there is no watch. It's a Code Red alert for government incompetence."

I couldn't agree more!

Gun control means many different things, almost every country where there is legislation does it differently.

A very good start is:
1. No guns for anyone determined as mentally unstable
2. Snap for anyone ever convicted of a violent crime, backed up with severe mandatory prison time. ( there would need to be an appeal process for people who can show they need and can be trusted with a gun)
3. Anyone who keeps guns in there home are to keep them in a properly secured gun safe when not in use. Penalty for non compliance is confiscation.

So who is going to make sure you " comply " with rule #3 ?

Your suggestions are already part of existing gun law. #3 in PA is required if you have children in the house.

The solution is a lot simpler than more laws: if we could convince criminals to obey all existing law. The number of all types of crime would decrease dramatically including gun deaths. Of course if criminals obeyed the law they would not be criminals and we would need very few laws or courts or lawyers or judges or politicians to make the laws.

Instead of gun control, we should have politician control.
In addition to voting...:0)

Many politicians think it is easier to control or eliminate the guns instead of controling the criminals. One thing to ponder... If all the guns were confiscated it would open up a whole new smuggling industry, smuggling guns into the country. Not to get off the subject but if pot were legalized across the country the pot smuggling industry would cease to exist. We would be legally growing it here. If the guns were not smuggled into the country they would also be manufactured here in illegal machine shops. A basic firearm is not that complicated and any machinist could build one with the new CNC equiptment we have out there. I agree with you. If you could control the criminal the gun problem would solve itself. One of the main problems we have is in our judicial system. The judges are clearly not doing their jobs. They need to enforce mandatory gun laws that are already on the books. We need to clear out the jails of white collar criminals and put them to good use in the community and save the jail space for the hardened criminals. We need mandatory 20 year sentences that cannot be plea bargained away. We need to show these thugs that it is NOT woth their while to use a gun in a crime. Just my thoughts...

Why is it that politicians love talking about gun control, but nothing about criminal control? We are led to believe that guns are responsible for most crimes and that simply is not true.

I def. agree that crime, drugs, and guns are a bad mix. However,I feel that a major player is a weak, corrupt court system that has been in place for way too long.

These two are already federal law in the United States.

If someone wrote a book containing all the gun laws in the US,a single person would have trouble carrying it out of the Library.
