I believe we need to take a stronger stance against gangs!!!
Is there any city in the U.S. that doesn't have one or more?
Do they not perpetuate more gun violence than the "lone gunman?"
Gangs are reaching out into all neighborhoods, they are no longer an inner city problem.

Because the politicians that love to talk about gun control are predominantly democrats. and since a majority of their constituents are criminals, they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they advocated "criminal control."

Decriminalizing marijuana is the first step but just like every other thing the prison lobby, (yes there is one) stands in the way because prisons are big business.
the other thought that guns have nothing to do with gun violence is practically laughable if it weren't so sad.
We really need to start somewhere and I would suggest we start by taking guns away from the insane. I don't think any reasonable person can argue with that.

That is by far the stupidest logic I have heard on this subject to date. Non-violent drug dealers?? Really??? And just how many of these "non-violent" drug dealers were carrying illegal weapons at the time of their arrest or as a regular daily habit? And these are the people you want to turn loose to depopulate our prison? Sounds like you have been smoking WAYYYYY too much of their product.

the US has probably the largest prison population in the free world! What are you talking about?

In 2009, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 66.9% of all homicides in the United States were perpetrated using a firearm.[5] Two-thirds of all gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides. In 2010, there were 19,392 firearm-related suicide deaths, and 11,078 firearm-related homicide deaths in the United States.[6] see wiki

The above figures match the FBI's figures.

Gun related deaths will surpass auto deaths this year.

In short, we are looking at over 33,000 deaths related to guns in the US. Not bad to be number 1 in the world.

BTW most gun related deaths are among family members or carried out by friends.

Do some research on this topic it is real interesting.

pbear,
Let's say you're right. If you are, then it would stand to reason that if people could grow their own pot or buy it at the liquor store, the turf wars for dealership rights would disappear.
Just as prohibition gave us organized crime so has marijuana. Once we legalized alcohol, the violent crime associated with it went away.
Right now, marijuana is classified as a schedule 1 drug which means there is no legitimate use for it. Yet, doctors are prescribing it so it must have a legitimate use in medicine. If nothing else, it should be taken off that list.
Might mellow out a few people on this site who are wrapped way to tight anyway.
We can learn for the past or be condemned to repeat it.

I would agree with that, the "war on drugs" is the biggest money making sham that anyone ever came up with. I can't even imagine the money that would be available for constructive projects if it were not spent jailing our population.

This comes around now and then. Tried Snopes and FactCheck but neither have anything about this list:

Efficient Gun Control that makes sense.
• In 1863 a Democrat shot and killed Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States.
•
• In 1881 a left wing radical Democrat shot James Garfield, President of the United States, who later died from the wound.
•
• In 1963 a radical left wing socialist shot and killed John F. Kennedy, President of the United States.
•
• In 1975 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at Gerald Ford, President of the United States.
•
• In 1983 a registered Democrat shot and wounded Ronald Reagan, President of the United States.
•
• In 1984 James Hubert, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 22 people in a McDonalds restaurant.
•
• In 1986 Patrick Sherrill, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 15 people in an Oklahoma post office.
•
• In 1990 James Pough, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 10 people at a GMAC office.
•
• In 1991 George Hennard, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 23 people in a Luby's cafeteria.
•
• In 1995 James Daniel Simpson, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 5 coworkers in a Texas laboratory.
•
• In 1999 Larry Asbrook, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 8 people at a church service.
•
• In 2001 a left wing radical Democrat fired shots at the White House in a failed attempt to kill George W. Bush, President of the US.
•
• In 2003 Douglas Williams, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people at a Lockheed Martin plant.
•
• In 2007 a registered Democrat named Seung - Hui Cho, shot and killed 32 people in Virginia Tech.
•
• In 2010 a mentally ill registered Democrat named Jared Lee Loughner, shot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed 6 others.
•
• In 2011 a registered Democrat named James Holmes, went into a movie theater and shot and killed 12 people.
•
• In 2012 Andrew Engeldinger, a disgruntled Democrat, shot and killed 7 people in Minneapolis.
•
• In 2013 a registered Democrat named Adam Lanza, shot and killed 26 people in a school.

One could go on, but you get the point, even if the media does not. Clearly, there is a problem with Democrats and guns.

No NRA member, Tea Party member, or Republican conservatives are involved.

SOLUTION: It should be illegal for Democrats to own guns.
Best idea I've heard to date.

With the exception of Bush and Lincoln every war we have been involved in was under a Democrat President.

And let us not forget that knives have nothing to do with knife violence. And marijuana has nothing to do with people getting killed. I could go on with your train of thought but that would be foolish. :x

Smart statement. Most people do not understand the real problem, which is not guns, and the politicians are all looking for votes, so they will try to make the majority happy who do not understand anything about guns.
