....

The majority of the misplaced posts are due to the fact that people don't select from the category pick list.
They just post in the default category, which is the last category one viewed.

I only found out because I posted a painting of an itinerant photographer's wagon. I was hoping for a discussion of how those guys lived and worked. Admin moved it to "Gallery". I exchanged a few posts with Admin but never really understood why he didn't understand my intent.

But if you don't put in pictures, Admin moves it to Chit-chat.

It's Admin's job to move posts, if necessary. No one else has the authority to be space police, as far as I know. Doing so tells the OP that WHERE something is posted is more important than the post itself. That's ridiculous. A beautiful image is beautiful and it doesn't matter where it got posted.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Why is the new format confusing so many people?
I find it very easy to understand.
In fact easier than the previous format.

100%+++.
So much better to select to view what you only want to see, instead of everything posted.

The new format is only The Digest.
Posting in categories didn't change.
FEW PEOPLE DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT CATEGORY THEIR POST WILL BE MADE, they just post.
There is a pull-down menu option for categories, always been!

I took a look at the Main Photography Section Rules (dated 2011). I did not see any prohibition on posting photos.

And there is no new format for UHH. The only thing that has changed is the digest. The digest is not an essential part of UHH. You can log in directly, without going through the digest.

I don't want to see other people images and I don't want to share my images so I prefer to have all images sharing in their own section. The other day, I saw a post "Im new here" in the main section and I thought the person wanted to ask a question so I went there. I found that the person only had some images to share. I did tell the person that he/she posted in the wrong section but I also understand that he/she is new and thus didn't know the way around the UHH yet. Many people thought that I am rude.

Well here we are with a situation of 'every stick has 2 ends' scenario. You posted as to why you commented, and this was directed as a help to those with needed information. It's hard to decipher meaning/ intent sometimes in a 2 dimensional format.

I made a comment in an earlier post about site hall monitors "Enough already?" - don't know if it was you Bebu that made the correction to an earlier post. If this was re: your post, I do apologize, to you, now knowing the purpose in helping and not simply griping; the other end of the stick.

I've found you helpful, informative and extremely knowledgeable - A whole lot more experienced in photography areas that I even have knowledge of.

Given the connection to your comment and mine is accurate, and then that being the case, then my respect for you demands a mia-culpa on my part.

As I've learned a valuable tool with the ability to update an opinion based on new accurate information, I'll work on tethering my quick assessment opinions to a shorter stick.

My Opinion:

Ever since the format changes to this forum, it has more increasingly difficult to navigate the sections. Therefore, posting photos anywhere on the forum seems appropriate. If the forum was re-formated to the old representations, it would be much easier for us to correctly post item subjects where they are supposed to be posted based on a standarized format, rather than no format at all.

Although we may not like the new format it is no more difficult to post to right forum than before which is not difficult at all.

I don't use the Photo Gallery section much but I took a look at the Photo Gallery Rules (dated 2016).

"..., the Main section is meant for discussions. Sometimes pictures are appropriate in the Main section, but mainly when used to illustrate a point or help the discussion. Pictures of your gear, setup, or schematics of any kind should also go into the Main section..." (emphasis mine)

It might help to clarify the rules in the main section by posting that sentence in the main section rules.

I sent a message to Admin to that effect.

Do you not understand there is a difference between a Forum and a Digest? Looking up the definitions would be helpful.

So true!
Then one, or two, or the baker's half dozen long-time subscribers began parroting the unsourced rumor that photos are not allowed in Main Photography Discussion.......therefore it became "the rule".

(Kinda like some people can be bent out of shape that a picture taker didn't follow a certain unsourced, rumor-driven "rule", that some picture critics are convinced is a pass or fail "rule" of photography.)
Perceptions can so easily be off kilter and malformed by adhering to rumors and personal preferences, rather than researching any factual basis, or absence thereof.
