Hmmm.... My OM-D E-M10.1 (16mp) produces stunningly sharp 24x30 photo prints that stand up to "walk up close lookyloos..." A Sigma 30mm F/1.4 lens is usually on that camera. 19 & 60mm Art lenses at hand for fun.

~ Would I get a newer model OM-D? Sure. If I waned somthin' new to play with - It wouldn'd be 'cause.O.print quality!

Thanks

What a silly answer!

I have a 16mp camera and am considering buying an updated version with 20mp. The new camera would cost $700. Is it worth it? I mostly look at my images on my computer but sometimes make prints.

No

My present camera is an Olympus OMD Mark one and the new one would be an OMD Mark Two. I'm only conderned about image quality and not additional features other image quality.

I have a 16mgpz EM-5markll and purchased a 20mgpz EM-1mark ll as an upgrade. I never liked the images from the EM-1 mll so I sold it to another hogger. For me the 16mgpz sensor has the right amount of pixels for it's size. If you have an itch, try a new system. I suggest you try an APS-C Sony A6000, and one lens to see if you like a larger sensor.

You answered your own question. If the camera costs $700 then it isn't worth it. (If that's the retail price.) Beside that, you sound like a hobbyist, and 4mp doesn't do a lot.

I am a hobbyist and the $700 price is for a second hand camera.

That is the only correct answer possible. Only you know if you should buy a camera.

I use a Leica DLux which has 12 megapixels. It is terrific. I really think that you have to see if the new camera will have features that your old one does not. I think that the jump to 20 megapixels is insignificant without other considerations.

Without knowing what cameras we are talking about it’s had to make a proper decision. The older camera offers the simplicity of using it and you are content with all of its aspects and features. For the newer camera you must learn it’s features and need to develop the muscle memory for a small gain in the resolution. Furthermore, I am not inclined to spend your money. You may be better off using your camera and then finding a new camera that offers a significant improvement.

If you are happy with the old one, stay with it.
I doubt the 20 MP will give much better images, but a new camera will probably have new improved features. Only you can decide after reviewing the camera description if it is worth the money. Good luck either way.

Rent the camera instead of purchasing it first, then compare the photos and see which one is better. Then decide from there. It will be money well spent to rent first than decide.

This is a great suggestion.

I have an OMD 16mp camera and I would say spending the $700 for such a small upgrade in sensor is ill advised. You'll see a very small, even insignificant difference in image quality and be putting larger image files on your computer. As someone mentioned, you'd be better off spending the $700 on a lens upgrade. You would have better image quality and increased satisfaction with your end results. Another option would be an upgrade in editing software. AI(Artificial Intelligence) programs make a remarkable difference in image quality and printable size options.

As others have said, what is it that you don't like about your 16MP camera and will a 20MP solve that problem, or are you just wanting to upgrade for the sake of upgrading? I can't see any difference between 16MP and 20MP unless you are planning to blow up your pictures to poster size. The average photograph or printed page will probably not see any difference (unless you just have excess money to spend?)

Sure it is! I would go for it and enjoy the new technology. Save your older camera for road trips and hikes. If you have the money, waste no time as prices are fixing to skyrocket at any moment.
