Thanks for the insight from experience. I'm going to go with Topaz DeNoise AI (currently on sale for $59); the only question now is whether to get Topaz Sharpen while I'm at it! Just $59 more...

I don't have the latest version of Topaz DeNoise so I was not able to make a direct comparison.

I have a few of the Topaz programs and although I do use Denoise, I usually run architectural files through DXO Pureraw as a first step.

I find the denoise of Pureraw does a bit better job on color noise in a lot of cases and also corrects for specific lens aberrations since you download individual lens and camera body profiles.
It processes raw images only and outputs either a jpeg or dng file. The settings are yes or no to global lens sharpening and lens distortion correction. The method of processing is HQ, Prime and Deep Prime. Deep Prime on my PC runs about 30 seconds for a 35 mb file. The same file took 13 seconds on Denoise.

Denoise I use as a plug in for PS, with more options for finer control in various specific directions. I haven't upgraded OnOne since the 2019 release and very rarely use it anymore.

I moved to the Olympus MFT system a couple of years ago and have enjoyed it overall; however, one drawback I've encountered is noise in low-light situations using higher ISO (of course). I've seen quite a few people online mention the wonders of Topaz DeNoise AI, and I'm wanting feedback from the UHH members who've actually tried it or use it. I did search the forum and saw discussion from as recent as a year ago--some liked the old DeNoise 6 better than the AI at that time (though I understand the v6 is discontinued); but has AI improved over the past year? I should mention that I do have Affinity Photo which comes with a noise filter, but I haven't been able to produce significant improvements with it (maybe due to inexperience/incompetence, haha). So does anyone here think DeNoise AI is truly amazing, or not so much?

I do realize that Topaz offers a 2-week trial, btw, but I've read where people say AI is more complicated to use than the v6, and I'm not sure at my recreational level that I'd be able to master the learning curve in time to make a good judgment in that time frame; thus I'm soliciting opinions.

Thanks!

When I loaded Topaz DeNoise AI is automatically loaded to Photoshop under my filter menu. I have had it more than a year and use it every day. It is my go to filter. It has two sliders and an automatic function. If you want more than it does automatically you can slide the noise and sharpen sliders to your liking. Now, Photoshop also has sliders for noise and sharpness but I prefer Topaz sliders.
Again, it is a tool, and like any tool it can be abused or used correctly. I do mainly wildlife photography and sometimes I have to crop extensively. That is where Topaz shines. Topaz also shows you and preview after each adjustment so you can continue to make slight adjustments until you are satisfied. It also shows you a close up box of your image that you can move around to other parts of your image to assure your adjustments do what you want.
This tool is not for everyone, but if your just out of focus or you need to crop in, this is the tool for you. In the following example of a Green Heron in flight that I took yesterday, the crop is about 1/8 of a RAW full frame image. I believe Topaz made the shot look a lot better than if I had not used it.
The decision to go to Topaz is up to you, I am glad and happy I made the move.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I use it a lot. It’s rather amazing what it can do with a grainy photo. You won’t be disappointed if you use it.

To get my bif pictures, i use a very high ISO which generates a lot of noice. DeNoise copes well, even as high as ISO 51,000. One caveat: You need a powerful computer, or it is very slow.

I've been using Topaz Denoise AI since it first became available, and it was GREAT then, and with MANY imrovements since that time, it is nothing short of "STELLAR!!!" I shoot on ISO AUTO with a ceiling of ISO 4000 on my Nikon D500, and I have no fear of uncontrollable noise at 4000, and have made prints at 16x24" without any visible noise once processed in Denoise AI.. I think it's the BEST app for noise reduction that anyone has come up with to date!! It also works GREAT at "higher" ISO's with prints of 8x10" to 11x14" with barely visible noise at ISO 6400!!

I was very happy with the Topaz DeNoise application till it quit working about 6 months after I bought it and Topaz was not helpful in solving it, eventually telling me I probably needed a newer computer. I then got the new On One denoise application and it runs fine. I actually like its results better than I got from Topaz. But the results could vary from camera to camera (I use an Olympus EM1 Mk3). Like any application, I’d always suggest someone test drive it before deciding.

I just purchased the Topaz De noise to complete the trilogy, but I cannot see a major difference between de noise and sharpen. What am I missing ( apart from experience). Thanks.

My personal opinion judging Topaz Denoise is favorable but I should add that I use the version 6 and not the AI version. When they offered a free update I decided to update from a previous AI version. It mixed up my computer and I never could get back to them for a fix. Luckily I had the old version 6 and I kept on using it with very good results. I was not entirely happy with the old, the original AI version. Denoise version 6 offered everything I needed.

In my personal opinion Topaz Denoise has been an excellent software although I keep admitting that I was not happy with the first AI version they offered. How updating mixed up everything in my computer I do not know, I believe Topaz has a lousy customer's service.
Just my personal opinion.

I am a 78 year old computer/technology idiot who has been printing & photographing since I was 10! Topaz is a GAME CHANGER! I love it, sometimes I have sharpening turned off and only denoise, sometimes the opposite. I shoot a 200-600 f6 something for my grand kids sports & birds - I ALWAYS have to denoise. The program is fabulous, and believe me, if I can use it, you won’t have any trouble. It is CLEARLY the best add-on to LR - I use it all the time. My three photo buddies all now use it. Even Christmas pics I used small sharpening to make eyes “pop”. You can not tell!

My previous comments on Topaz DeNoise: I guess that I am guilty of using Topaz products because they are "just easier to use" and faster too.
I have been using the Topaz products for almost two years, and in that two years, they have improved greatly in both speed and results, even when using their "Default" settings.
However, for maximum positive results, you MUST use their workflow! Yes, I know that you may know better and want to use your own patented workflow and "tweak" their settings. But, for me, Their Workflow and Settings work better (for me) at least 97% of the time.
https://topazlabs.com/the-ultimate-workflow-for-topaz-labs-ai-software/?utm_source=Topaz+Updates&utm_campaign=8c480bdca3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_11_19_04_29&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_5e4dd8652a-8c480bdca3-92602881&mc_cid=8c480bdca3&mc_eid=c9be7297b0

The majority of these gains have been in the last nine months.
Their current Topaz DeNoise is AI v3.4.2 which I downloaded just this a.m.
Topaz DeNoise is AI v3.4.2 also has "Enhance Sharpness", and "Mask" features which work very well.
If I could only have one of their products it would be DeNoise AI.

A recent discussion on Topaz Products here on UHH: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-702553-1.html

Topaz Products is currently offering 25% off at: https://www.topazlabs.com/
No, I don't receive ANYTHING from Topaz Products, I'm just a user and a Huge Fan of all things which work well!
All of their products make me . . . .
